For sure. Davenport was awesome. I'm a 90s Canes fan. I haven't forgotten.
 
Portis was the perfect example of a guy with running back skill. ****, maybe it’s instincts. Big guys who can run fast are always great to have but CP had the traits that make a good running back. Vision, balance, change of direction. The ability to get two yards when you absolutely need to. Waiting for the hole to develop instead of just plowing into the backs of your blockers. Guy was an underrated receiver too. Of course the sorry *** gators wanted to make him a DB.

I am a 90s Canes fan. Sans 1997, it was just a given that we would have a very good team, even if we weren't title contenders.

2006 to the present has been extremely frustrating.

The main reason we let the days of rings end , upper management was concerned of what the press thought of us as we were stacking up NC rings not what it provided for all the other sports let alone Miamis bank accounts which were over flowing.

Once you take your eyes off the ball others will take it and they did.

Upper management is the reason for the collapse just like any other business that’s successful and fails upper management the cause.
 
He was so fun to watch.
What at era in Miami football with all these great backs, each with their unique running style.
Man I miss the late 90s, early 2000s Miami football.
Saw him dominate at the Penn State game, and save our asses at Boston College.
Great player.

Ha, my son is 8 and he always asks to watch the YouTube clip where Keith Jackson said this after his big run.

CP is my favorite Cane. I was a freshman at UM in ‘01 and then moved back to DC after graduating. I had Skins season tix for a while and he (and Santana, Sean, and Rocky) made the games fun.

But for those wondering about the Denver-to-DC situation, CP demanded a contract extension and raise off his rookie contract. Shanahan didn’t want to give it to him, and he was traded for Champ Bailey. I agree that it would’ve been better for his career to stay in Denver, but I’m selfishly glad he landed in DC so I could keep watching him every week.
 
Portis was a menace. My favorite Cane of all time. He had that lean and slipperyness in between tackles to always squirt forward for 3-5 yards even when there was nothing there. Defenders could never get a straight hit on him. And he was also a game breaker with speed. Stubborn Butch blew the Washington game by refusing to give the ball to Portis more. Butch finally started feeding him in the second half and plays like this started happening:

Simply stated Portis was the Truth!.

He had outstanding speed and new how to use it. His vision and cuts were next level, he is in that Pantheon of Greatest All Time Hurricane Backs.
