Hotels ND and Clemson

The last time we played in South Bend the school actually had a package that included access to a tailgate as well as shuttle busses to and from the game. The busses left from The Gold Coast (North Michigan Avenue). It made it much easier logistically to handle than driving.

As some folks mentioned its about a 1:40 drive but you lose an hour as South Bend is in the Eastern Time Zone. Additionally, traffic on game days is a lot more than normal. You CAN take the train, but that schedule may not align with the game start or end time.

Heard of a train from Chicago to south bend.... Is this recommended?
That would be the South Shore Line, which you can take from Millenium Station in Chicago to the South Bend Airport. There is an express train that is around 2 hours. You would need some form of transportation from the airport to the stadium.

It is typical of public transportation: don't have to worry about driving and it is relatively inexpensive but there is a strange cast of characters, no flexibility, and mid amenities (hard seats, bad wifi). It gets the job done but I would not necessarily recommend it. I commuted to Chicago from SB for work for 3 years and took the train once then ponied up for a garage spot in the loop.

i know we have some foodies in here. What food spots you guys hitting that weekend? Probably staying DT myself as well.

When I went to Clemson in 2010 we stayed in Anderson. It's like 20 minutes from the stadium, but on game day it took us over 2 hours.

Yes, you can take the South shore train line from Chicago to South Bend. The Chicago station is right by millennium Park. I would recommend it over renting a car and driving if the train schedule works for the kickoff and your game day plans. It's convenient and you can get liquored up.
