At this point most everyone hopes Golden proves them wrong. The problem is none of the evidence suggest he's able to do so.
Sure, Butch Davis had his share of bumps during a " true" rebuilding period but he also had some good performances mixed in. For example....he lost to a pretty talented syracuse team with Donovan mcnabb, Keith bullock, Kevin Johnson etc but bounced back with a win over a top 5 ucla team. Golden has zero of these types of performances.
Even if you wanna lie to yourself and pretend the situations are simular ..ok..that's fine..but the signs that point to a rise in the program are not. That's the issue.
Further, if you paid any attention to this guy in year one you probably would have realized then he wasn't the man for the job.
Golden inherited one of the most talented and experinced teams in the acc and went 5-6 vs div. 1 teams. That's the same record Davis had fielding a depleted hurricane squad minus 31 ships.
The only difference here is one coach deserved the banner he got and the other didn't.

to put this topic of comparison to rest, here's the biggest difference between butch and golden right now....
they were both blindsided by investigations....butch was led to believe that the whole pell-grant fraud was pretty much settled, when it was not. golden was completely left out of the loop regarding miami being investigated by the ncaa for nevin shapiro's involvement....however,
butch was handed a **** near death penalty, while golden received a slap on the wrist. both scandals adversely affected recruiting, but here's the difference between the two...butch's prowess as a recruiter was/is far superior than golden's. butch said he could not miss on talent w/ limited scholarships so he had to get the best; plus, he was creative in getting football guys on his team using other forms of sports scholarships that were not affected by the scandal. butch took, the best of the best based upon talent assessment.
golden, on the other hand not, only neglected so. fla his first year, but he rubbed some of so. fla coaches the wrong way by not being as active in the community as he promised regarding building that fence. not to say he had to exclusively recruit here, but he has done anything but "not-miss" on his recruits. he has treated limited schollies like candy. we were offering juco guys left and right, 3 star o/s projects...and then when it came to offering top-tier guys in so. fla, it was either too late (see dalvin cook) or we wanted to change their position before we even signed them (see t. rudolph).
golden has been phony since day one and looking at his presser when he took the job, we should've known then he was a salesman. when guys say dream jobs (which is false b/c his dream job was psu), something is up; just like when recruits say we're their dream school, you know they're not coming here.
look at our 2015 class, w/ no cloud and look at butch's 1998 class w/ no cloud and you tell me if there are any similarities.

The comparison should be 1998 to 1999. My answer is no, we ended Butch's 4th year 9-3 after a 5-6 season the year before. I felt like this last year despite the end of season collapse mainly due to the talent that was coming back. Had Miami upset FSU and won their last 2 games and ended with a record of 9-3 this year, I would have felt shades of 1998.
However, this did not happen. My hope comes from the fact that we have better talent now and the potential to beat FSU and go 12-0 with next year's roster. Will it happen? I doubt it but I will be cheering for it to happen regardless who the coaches are.

I expect next year to be between a 4 and 6 win season. Look for that vaunted 15th ranked defense to drop like a rock. Offense under kaaya will be better. Overall with the players we are losing and atmosphere around the team, 4-6 wins is what I see.

We had the talent to do all those things this year and went 6-6. With a very average recruiting class coming in and a talent drop off to next year I don't see how you or anybody else can expect us to be better next year. It smells like 6-6 all over again.

No one has brought up that Butch and Al had different kinds of scholarship losses. Butch's were enforced on the front end with recruiting class sizes cut in half, while Golden could sign as many as he wanted every year he was here. The difference in impact can not be understated.

Golden is going to go down as probably the worst coach in the history of the program.
Butch built the best team not only in the history of the program, but probably in the history of college football.

If so, what in the **** leads you to that conclusion, given the team's record over the last 4 years?

The thing that really helps 2016 is the early commitment of QB Jack Allison. QB's usually stick and with him in the bag, the skill guys are gonna wanna play with him. Now if we can get Gibson somehow this year then this class might get decent. Irvin and Johnson I think are coming but ya never know.
Scarlett is coming. If Walton stays in the '16 class then I think we can keep Williams, Cronkite, and Scarlett with Williams being an athlete playing reciever and running back. Cronkite only wants two running backs in this class so it's important that Walton maybe stays in his class. Williams seems to be on board with the athlete role.
