Honestly think this is salvageable…

Something that bugs me is the drop off on the running game especially over the last 2 games. If we are to succeed we need to give TVD a competent running game. TVD's a solid player but is not a superstar that will take over a game and giving him a competent running game helps him out. I was expecting us to have some success here with Mario/Mirabal and the vast improvement in talent on the o-line.

Below are the stats for the running attacks unc has faced this year. Being on par with Syracuse and having teams like Pitt/Minnesota/App State have a better ground game is disappointing.

Parrish has the worst vision of any back I’ve seen in a UM uniform. He should not be our primary back. He cost us a number of chunk plays. As long as he’s RB1, we’ll be limited.

Yea he's missed on some big gash plays that were there.

I feel like I’ve seen improvement from last year to this year.
But to take that next step, we need:

Quality analysts
A better qb
variety in run play types
replace all starting DBs
portals everywhere - replace outgoing starters and depth everywhere

I realize that if you have a kid with an incredible arm and can run you likely have a #1 pick

We’ve had two QBs drafted in the last 20 years and both were 6/7 round

But you need some kind of mix these days it just makes everything easier and makes an OC look good
The defenses are too fast even the average acc defenses. They will sell out on the run. You need someone to pose some sort of threat. Not that Daniel Jones and TVD straight line BS, you need someone with agility. We making it easier for Dlines to sleep on Friday. “Oh it’s this guy we can just rush him”

Watching this Jets/Eagles game is depressing. I feel like I’m watching a Bama scrimmage. Man, we are so, so far away from a personnel standpoint.

…Next year, if we do *every single one* of the following:

- Go grab 2-3 dual threat or at least athletic QBs that are an actual threat to run, from either portal and HS (anywhere), and let them compete with Emory to see who can actually lead the team and step up in pivotal moments. TVD just doesn’t got it despite having most of the tools, we need to move on and develop the future.

- Raid the portal like all ****, push out all remaining Manny kids.

- Interview Guidry and Dawson for their jobs again. They can keep them, but only if they fairly and accurately review their season and own all mistakes and present plans to improve immensely on it next season.

- Hire a game management assistant and stats nerd who’s only job it is to tell Mario when to call TOs.

- Overhaul analysts and self scouting practices

Same here, there is zero creativity with the run game. We're playing caveman football and it makes absolutely no sense.

Need more creativity in the run game, dress it up or something, motion somebody across and at least give the lb something to think about.

We literally see a 6 man box and just like oh our 6 will beat their 6 lol like man come on with this fake tough **** and get innovative

Our secondary is **** poor and absolutely terrible. Play the young guys and sit Williams down. He is definitely a negative and seems to be late on the plays most of the time. He can't conrtol his emotions on the field either which translates into penalties. Kam is nothing special on the field but off the field he is. Our coaching is second class and thats a big problem. Hard to watch this team underform, poorly execute, stupid penalties, and a very vanilla offense. Where are the Brown brothers ? Mario is a true Charlatan to say the least.

I think this has been a big part of the issues the last two games. The RB position has not been upgraded since last year. That 4.5 yards per carrier stat is incredibly deceiving when there's no threat of any RB on this team breaking a run for a long gain. I keep seeing people point to that as, "The running game isn't bad, look at the YPC!". It causes two problems:

1) If you're playing from behind you can't just march down the field getting 4-5 yards per carry and have an 8 minute drive.
2) I think Ga Tech and UNC were very content letting us get 4-5 yards per carry and forcing the receivers to beat them. It worked against A&M but our receivers aren't good enough to be threats in every game we play. We're going to have games where they just don't play out.

They need a fast back whose a legit threat to get big chunk plays to force the corners and safeties to play closer to the line. And then they need a legit deep threat WR to hurt them over the top once they come up. If they have that setup Mario's offensive DNA can work. Both speeds can be a great combination in the run game and the score can dictate how you use them. But you can't have bruising backs who get 4-5 yards per carry, and no WR, because you'll never be able to come back in a game in this day and age. You saw it in the 3rd quarter of UNC. The second it became a score fest we weren't suited to play that game.

See if we can get out of having a bye week.

I’ve been screaming from the mountain tops regarding our running game being **** poor considering the OL we allegedly have. I’m not sure how they can be good at pass blocking but not in the run game. Maybe our RBs can’t hit holes. Maybe Mario and Mirabal deserve blame. Maybe our OL is overrated. Maybe Dawson doesn’t scheme up enough different looks in the running game.

Idk, but it’s something. Warning signs were also there against Bethune and Temple, we have so few explosive runs. They’re all 5-6 yd carries when we do.

This is correct. Don't get me wrong, I love the kid - runs real hard, is tough nosed, etc., but he's just not a RB1 type of kid. Frankly, I'm not sure if that kind of kid is on our roster. Maybe fletcher/Citizen but some major questions around them.

You want to salvage this tenure? Here’s the brutally honest truth.

Say we go 7-5 this season with losses to Clemson, FSU and Louisville (Mario has yet to win an ACC home game in 18 months, so for now I have zero faith this team gets off the mat in front of a lackluster crowd and beats Clemson; nor do I think they respond after a loss in Tallanasty).

Step 1: Ensure Kevin Riley and Lightfoot don’t go anywhere, up their bags.
Step 2: Fire Addae and demote Salve’a to an off-field position… or fire him, don’t care.
Step 3: Shell out more money for a QB1, a DB1, another WR, and most importantly of all, the best god**** DT tampering and money can buy.
Step 4: Bring in another DB, another edge rusher, a LB, and a safety. Wouldn’t mind another DT, can’t have enough.
Step 5: Take a Coursera Class on Clock Management for Dummies
Step 6: Pray we don’t lose to UF or this thing becomes an absolute **** show.

Probably not realistic, but that’s how you turn around a team in one year.

I hate to be the downer here, or maybe just the realist but look at the roster:

On Offense of your starters you will lose Matt Lee and Javion Cohen and Cam McCormick - that is it. In other words, the O you see today is the O you get next year, minus some movement along the line.
On Defense you lose Branson Deen, Couch and Jaden Davis as seniors. Jury is out on whether anyone declares early, but lets just say Kam declares. You are replacing the backend which is HUGE, but you need to get it right. Do you think the current roster has 3 viable starters for next year?

Yes, I know we could see some others declare or portal departures, and I for one would be watching a guy like Arroyo to leave since TVD doesn't know what a TE is to throw to. That said, you are almost assurdly going to see the same team next year, as depressing as that might sound.
