As I watch some of the pregame the thought that keeps going thru my head is....will we be in this game again? So many changes in the CFB landscape since our last natty. Looking for thoughts both pro & con without the smack and name calling. Just some analysis on what you think and why? Lot’s of questions to be answered, let’s hear it!

Richt is gonna have to overcome Dabo.

I don’t want to make this a DT recruiting thread but....DT recruiting is critical.

I honestly don't think we will ever get back to the Nation Championship. Lord knows that I hope and pray I'm wrong, but to me you need a dominant offensive and defensive line. And I just don't ever see Miami having both again. We have skill positions but we just don't compete for elite dudes in the Trenches.

Half glass empty -no
Half glass full - yes

I say yes...

We will and it’ll be soon. Richt is probably the second best coach in our history, Richt’s misses at QB happened when they took playcalling and essentially his O away from him, he knows RB talent, he has always had Defensive talent. A lot of people on don’t understand how many plays were left on the field...I saw them complaining about wanting an offense like Oklahoma during the semifinals and couldn’t do nothing but laugh. Posters on here actually think we could execute that playbook when we just watched our LT whiff on a block running a simple tunnel screen and cause an interception the day before. We’ll be there again...we just don’t have the depth right now.

We need a superstar QB. We need our jamies, watson, mayfield, manziel, etc.. Need a QB that can do it almost by themselves... that mixed with our skill positions would change everything.

We have had avg. to below avg. QBs for a LONG time. I hope Perry or the new kid can change that trend.

If Perry or Williams are that good, then yes. I know it happens in the trenches, as they say, but a dynamic QB can also take you very far. OU had no defense (DL included) and they were a healthy Baker Mayfield away from the title. Auburn won a title with Cam and almost beat FSU in '13 with whatshisface without good defenses (though the 2010 team did have Fairley).

Just as water seeks it''s own level so too will NCAA football. Right now the haves are dominating because they play in conferences loaded with have nots. When the bottom and mid-level feeders begin to get better, parity itself will change the dynamic.

This year we saw the conversations about possible two loss teams making the tourney. Parity will make this a reality. Look at the NFL......how many teams make it through the season undefeated? One, two and three loss teams make it into the playoff. It could happen in college football as well.

It's all about the trenches guys. Don't matter about your QB if your line can't give him time to find the open guy or can't make holes for your backs. If your D line gets blown off the ball and can't stop the run game over.

1 game away from the playoffs with malik rosier at qb.... limited depth and critical injuries of our offense at major positions at rb,receiver and tight end. We will be fine and are on the right trajectory

Also some units that were no where near playoff caliber. Amazing we did so well. Hope it wasnt the schedule and the mostly awful ACC opponents.

On offense, our QB, OL and RBs were below average. (Maybe not RBs, but they werent upper tier) Thats a huge hole.

If Perry and/or Williams are as advertised, QB will not be a problem. RB unit of Homer, Dallas, Lingard, Davis with George at FB is not below average. We'll see about the OL. Also, if Walton doesn't get hurt, Walton, Homer, Dallas are not a below average RB corps.

Yes, that's what I alluded too (bout our RBs).

Amazing how bad our OL has been. Who else was a playoff contender with no OL and no QB? Nobody else. Ever.

With all this CTE stuff, football will eventually look like 7 on 7. I have faith we will be elite at that with the SoFl skill position players.

I was asking myself that in 97 after losing 47-0. Four short years later.... Of course we will be back!! settle down

We've had two super star QBs, Jim and Vinny. Neither got us a NC, despite one getting to two with one of best teams ever. We need better QB play but we need better play everywhere and coaching improvement also. But talented depth is most important.

Yeah one game but.....I mean we weren’t even playing the same game as Clemson

I tend to agree though with some better injury luck and a real QB
