Holding calls?

If I am the opposing coach I am encouraging my players to hold. Just not going to get called.

You can bet you won't see a holding call against Clemson.

The next time we see one will be playoff game if there are not ACC refs.

I hate being in this redneck conference.

That's what worries me the most is when we play Clemson. When those calls can potentially aid us, and stick Clemson in bad situations.

It's definitely noticeable that less holding is being called overall. I don't remember too many holding penalties being called on us either, so at least it's being let go both ways

I agree. Would be interested in the overall stats on holding calls in cfb this year. It seems as though there was a policy implemented to call it less. When was the last time one of our Olinemen was called for holding?

edit: maybe intended to reduce hits on QBs?

Fourth quarter of the FSU game.

It's like that exact instant of the game the ACC decided to stop calling them for us and against us.

Wow, ok. You can't get that upset about it then.

Seems ok

It was disgusting. Chad got around the OT on a play and literally got tackled right infront of sideline judge.
I reckon we'd get a holding call every other play

Third quarter when we had them pinned in the 3yd line, on 3rd down Chad was basically tackled as he was chasing the QB. Right in front of an official too.

So many missed holding calls it was sad.. The announcers were claiming "Let em play" smh

Just put together a montage of this game followed by the stat of 400 plus snaps of no holds called get it circulating on twitter.

I've seen more holds not called this year than any year I can remember. However, I have also not seen the blatant ******** we have gotten every other year in the ACC, so I'll take it, for now.

I have watched numerous games this year and holding call.rare this year. Have seen nothing explaining it. Numerous fan bases making the same complaint. Maybe someone on the inside could ask one of the coaches what is going on.

This is correct. I haven't added it up, but we must have way fewer penalties overall (whether for holding or otherwise) than any other season over the last few years. The ND game was extremely clean for us by historical standards. The refs didn't call holding on UVA but they also seemed to favor us on "no-calls" late in the game. Overall, I actually felt like the ACC had given the refs a mandate to ensure that two ACC teams remain ranked in the top 4 of the AP & Coaches Polls. While UVA has been in the ACC far longer (and likely has considerably more political power within the ACC than Miami given their longer ACC tenure), it is way more prestigious for the ACC to have Undefeated Miami play one-loss Clemson in the ACC Championship than help UVA win. Think of the ratings impact on the ACC Championship game (if we are undefeated). That translates into major dollars on the next TV contract etc. If it were earlier in the season (and there wasn't so much at stake for the ACC), more of the calls & non-calls would likely have gone UVA's way.

It used to be they only called holding on us. I suppose having none called whatsoever is the best we could hope for.

If the refs want to keep their flags in their pockets, so long as it's a two way street, that's fine with me. Keep the game moving.

The holding calls, or the lack there of is definitely an enigma. As long as I have been watching football, I have to believe that these officials must employ some sort of balance system to try to evenly distribute holding calls between both teams, but by no means do they intend to call every hold on the field. Holding is way too obvious and happens way to much for me to believe otherwise. In 2015 NCAA added another official to the mix in Division 1 bring the total to 8, but holding is still rampant. What the fvck is really going on with the zebras.

We can only hope. Again, as mostly everyone's sentiment here, as long as its equal on both sides with regards to letting them play, then I'm fine with it, but depending on any given situation where the game is possibly on the line, or a crucial drive, etc, those holding calls (or non calls) can have a profound effect.

It's almost impossible to play as many downs of defense as we have without a holding call. It literally doesn't make any statistical sense.
