2020 Western (FL) 3-star CB Justin Hodges has been committed to the Hurricanes since May and says nothing has changed with his status over the summer.

“I’ll talk to other schools sometimes, but I’m still 100% with Miami,” Hodges said. “I probably won’t take other visits.”

Now a Miami commitment, Hodges has visited campus upwards of 4 times this summer for various events held at UM and he says he’s spent the majority of his time building his bond with his future position coach in Mike Rumph.

“We’ve been getting closer and closer,” Hodges said of Rumph. “I go up there a lot and visit a lot. We’ll talk a lot and hangout.”

Hodges’ last UM trip came during the contact period at the end of July three weeks back, an event in which the Canes had most of their commits on campus.

“We just bonded with the other commits,” Hodges said of his time at UM. “Then we took a couple pictures, watched practice. We just bonded with the coaches and the players there.”

The plan for Hodges has always been to graduate school early and enroll at Miami in time for spring ball, and he says he is still on track to do that. In terms of the rest of the Category20 class, Hodges offered some thoughts on how he feels the group is coming together.

“Man, we got it. We got a lot of talent, a lot of talent,” Hodges said. “We’ve got a group chat and everything, so all of us will talk. Marcus Clarke, I’ve met him a couple times now. He’s quiet, but we talk, he’s cool.”

What aspect of his game has he been working to improve over the offseason?

“I’ve been working on everything. Speed, just everything,” Hodges said. “You never can be too good, so I’m always grinding on everything.”

At 6’1”, Hodges has also spent his offseason putting on muscle. Even though he’s added nearly 20 pounds, he’s still looking for a few extra before he gets to Miami.

“I’m at 175 right now - I’m trying to hit at least 180, 185,” Hodges said. “I’m ready for the season. Whoever I line up against gonna get it.”

Although he’s unsure when his next visit to Miami’s campus will take place, Hodges is already set on travelling to Orlando to watch the Hurricanes take on the #8 ranked Florida Gators next week.

“I’m there, front row. I’ll be there with my family. I already know we’re winning for sure.”

Seems like 90% of the 2020 class will be early enrollees

That is what excites me the most about this class. We have seen first hand just how much of an advantage the EE's receive for enrolling early. I would say 90% of all the EE's taken in the last 4 classes have seen significant minutes as true freshmen. Next spring is going to be competitive as ****.

Its better than finding out in Mid-August that your star Offensive recruit not being eligible lol

Western has one of the top strength coaches in the state.

For anyone at the Western vs Palmetoo game, what happened to the offense?

I'd bet half of the DB's starting on NFL rosters were kids this site would have been upset with their commitment. I like the value these coaches put into their personal evals. For every 4 star prima donna there is a 3.5 star just as good and needs far less coddling.

It's hilarious to see everyone coming around on this kid, just a few months ago everyone was bashing him saying he's too slow & needs to be dropped...

I was literally the first person to ever post on him on this board back in Dec 2018 & was high on him them!

You mf'ers are always late lol.

This kid will be on the DJ Ivey plan. Let him gain strength and improve in year 1 then unleash him in year 2.

I wasn’t fully sold but that arm length and frame had me super intrigued. But I was far from down on him, I’m a sucker for long arms and longer frames. Just don’t be stiff.

I was convinced once he did that bunny hop on the boxes! Cats on here made it seem like any average Joe could do that and I was LMAO. Kid is an athlete at 6”1 and he going to develop very nicely and only get better! And he gained 20lbs too? He is in!

Being part of the Blades family, I don't think we'll have to worry about a decommitment or a future portal entry.

Not pointing out any other DBs specifically.

Or, maybe I am.
