There has to be a head. You can't have someone running something and their nominal boss having less power than they do.
Now, could I see Zo being the Asst AD with a tacit agreement that Jurich grooms him to be the AD down the line? Yes and that would be a solid arrangement. However, Zo may not want to wait his turn and may want to be THE MAN. There is also the power dynamic of Zo being a former player and probably untouchable if hired. What happens if Jurich and Zo disagree on the direction of the program? Who wins that battle? Jurich is an outsider..
What? He’s not coming here to be a glorified recruiting director.I think you're mistaken.
We're all speculating about what Alonzo's role could or would be, but judging from his background in the Packers scouting or personnel department, if he is hired as a general manager of sorts and is primarily tasked with finding recruits to fulfill the head coach's vision, why would that encroach on the AD?
No AD could ever fire Zo, Zo is a beloved former Cane from Columbus, the BOT ain’t moving him at all once he gets hired...
If anything, the AD would be on the chopping block long before Zo ever would.
In Miami, the former players run the program, what they say goes.

UM spent $ on a searching company for this guy? Way to spend our money wisely.
Next they buy artwork for the blind!

So basically you and the Giology guy repeatedly post about this AD issue without one bit of knowledge for how other major athletic departments and professional teams work. Got it.For the major revenue sports, I'm willing to bet that the AD has a lot of say so and those Associate ADs are glorified stooges for what the AD and HC want. What business leader turns over control of their most profitable divisions to someone else and and doesn't remain hands on?

It would seem that you have best of the sauces.Bruh… I got sweet baby rays, Heinz ketchup, Mustard, dukes mayonnaise, Chick-fil-A sauce, kens steakhouse ranch, and A1… I got all the sauces!!
True. Never thought about it that way. I forgot we were now an NFL team. You're exactly right.
Not one of the 32 coaches in the NFL wants the job b/c there is a structure in place with a GM who executes on the football side of things and a President who handles business matters. Coaches are going to be turning down the job left and right b/c they are only getting paid $6-8M a year and are saddled with the burden of reporting to a GM-like position whose sole purpose is to give that coach the players, facilities, and resources to win.

I don't disagree.
We know pro coaches are comfortable with it so maybe a CFB coach might be curious to try. But, certainly, it could be a source of contention. I'm not aware of any HC in CFB that isn't responsible (to steal Parcells' line) of picking the ingredients and cooking the meal. I guess you could convince a HC that permitting Zo to be in charge of scouting frees up HC during the season to focus on what actually matters on Saturday. I can't imagine that coaches enjoy texting 17 y/o kids and watching game film of recruits during the season?

Not if you remember to ask after they hand you the bag.Don't most places now charge for extra sauces?
It was definitely not a comprehensive list, but all solid choices. He didn't mention Stubbs. Doesn't have some key sauces
Hit Deep!!!! going, going and I don't think that's going to be playable. He doesn’t have to be in charge.
He creates a system that evaluates more recruits in a deeper way. Head coach still makes the picks, but he gets to do so with way more information.
He doesn’t necessarily have to dictate anything to the ad or head coach. He just runs processes and operations that support them. By not being their boss, he doesn’t have to take responsibility for the head coach’s failures like an ad does.
Nobody blames the recruiting coordinator for a poorly performing head coach. Often the support guys get the benefit of the doubt and people want to keep them even when they run the coach or ad out of town.
Zo could put himself in position to be a long term employee for his beloved alma mater using his experience to help while completely avoiding the risks that comes with the responsibility of a coach or ad.
