Highsmith to the U?

None of this makes any sense. Highsmith is not overseeing the baseball and women’s BB programs. No AD is working for a school which already has someone in place for football.

I think you're mistaken.

We're all speculating about what Alonzo's role could or would be, but judging from his background in the Packers scouting or personnel department, if he is hired as a general manager of sorts and is primarily tasked with finding recruits to fulfill the head coach's vision, why would that encroach on the AD?
Because no AD wants a layer of bureaucracy between themselves and their most important hire. There is usually an administrator that deals with day to day stuff, but they are a glorified stooge for the AD. Zo won't be anyone's stooge, so that means an AD will have a guy with legit power standing between himself and his revenue generator.

So he could be a stooge for the Packers or Browns or Seahawks? He was hired by the Seattle GM who said Alonzo mentored him at Green Bay.

You don't think a guy like Jurich would be comfortable with a guy like Alonzo who has years as an NFL executive to be Associate AD? It is not like Alonzo is some incompetent. The dude is highly qualified.

*** no. No AD worth a **** would want that bullchit. Awful idea and only our fanbase would want this atrocious nonsense.

Exactly. He's also seen every single major program and can help implement the best ideas/strategies from the best of bread schools.

Finally, if a guy like Jurich is coming he could be grooming him as his eventual replacement.

So you don't think the presumptive AD would not sign off on it? I realize we have a bunch of fans who have Hecht PTSD but I will wait until an announcement to see how this plays out. I won't immediately run to the negative.

Interesting, if true. I wonder if Zo and Jurich are fighting it out for the AD role? Or if Zo will be the “manager” and Jurich the AD. Guess we shall find out tomorrow

I think you're making it more than what it is.

Let's assume--because again, we don't know--that Alonzo's role is that of a general manager of sorts. Let's assume he is heavily involved in scouting. He implements culture. He is there day in, day out and meets regularly with HC concerning players, transfer market, scout, scheme, personnel, etc. If he (or anyone in that position) reports to the AD, why would that threaten an AD? An AD isn't capable to do those things, nor does an AD have the time to be around the football team 24/7. If there is a very clear job description put in place that the "GM" (Alonzo) reports to the AD, I don't see why that would be a problem. Quite frankly, if I'm the AD, I'd be excited with bringing a pro structure to college and maybe starting a new trend.

I think where there may be conflict is between GM and HC, which we see all the time in pro sports. That to me is far, far more of an issue than between GM and AD.
