Highschool football

Jeez they got some y’all acting like little ******* . Completely on your knees and at their mercy. Grow a pair of balls and start looking at facts. Kids aren’t at any real risk...
Kids are at risk! Not the majority but some will get seriously sick and possible issues later on. Personally I don’t think fans give a **** if this were Black Death as long as you get your Saturday “Fix”

It’s not about kids dying from this disease! It’s about community spread! And some kids probably will have health issues related to this disease! Playing a sport where spit and saliva is projected constantly probably isn’t the safest place to be during a airborne pandemic! I love football as much as anybody but for Gods Sake there are more important things happening in the world than a **** Game!

That’s an interesting take. I must be confused though... does spit and saliva and contact not happen during hockey? Hockey is playing... basketball players don’t sweat and bang? They are playing.

These kids are more apt to do/get this “community spread” you speak of at BLM marches (which they attended), hanging out with friends/parties, etc.

You’re worried about some community spread for a virus that 99.96% make it through. I’m worried about the livelihood of kids who engage in sports at a young age to make something of themselves. That’s ALL on the cusp of being taken away. And I’m not just talking about football.

Lmao. Athletic kids just spent their entire summers working out together, partying, playing 7on7, select baseball, etc.
I have two kids who played entire travel baseball and basketball seasons all summer long with zero social distancing or masks and I don't know a single kid or parent associated with either team who got sick. Kids are largely asymptomatic with this if they get it at all. This has nothing to do with kids' safety and everything to do with BS politics and goalpost-moving adults.

I'm old enough to remember "2 weeks to flatten the curve" back in March and it's been horrifying to see this bull**** evolve into a few scary segments of society demand everyone else shut down life indefinitely.

*Eight* kids in the entire state of Texas from 10-19 have died of this - six of them had comorbidities. If you're advocating for stealing the senior years from millions of teenagers over that, driving to work must scare the **** out of you.

I'm on both sides of this.

I have a 17 year old son who has been and is continuing to play travel basketball. my wife and I accept that there is some risk to our son, but we have concluded that the risk in playing is no greater than the risk in attending school, which he will be doing next week. We are fairly liberal people who trust and believe in science, but we also try to moderate science with common sense and reasonable acceptance of risk.

On the other hand, I do think as a country we are still in the midst of a terrible pandemic that will cost if thousands and thousands of lives and we should continue to take every possible reasonable precaution. For example, I'd like to see all middle and high school kids wear masks in school.
But too often this debate has become all (shut everything down), or nothing (no masks, just drink Lysol).

Both views are wrong, IMO

This is a horrible pandemic. Those highest at risk - nursing home residents, those over 60, obese people, diabetics, asthmatics, etc., should absolutely do whatever they can to minimize their risk. For that matter, healthy 30 year olds need to do whatever they think is best. But healthy young people should not have their lives stolen from them to appease others. This is not a virus that mows down healthy young people or, for the most part, healthy HS kid-aged parents. There is a LOT of data about this now. A LOT. And a lot of data about asymptomatic cases that make it a lot less scary than the media's making it sound. We were an unhealthy society and we had administrators shoving it into nursing homes. Those are the folks who need to be in a bubble, not 175 pound 16 year olds.

Are high schools even open? Not gonna have high school football if you don’t even have high school.
In Maryland high schools are most virtual. Football is canceled. We know that everyone is this thread only cares about football so this comment will probably receive negative feedback. The kids are the problem, it's giving it to their nuclear and blended families that could become problematic. But care on. I'm out of this thread. Yall can enjoy it.

I think schools should open. And play football.

But you can't really make a serious argument to have high school football if you don't even have high schools open for class. That was my point.

The media has completely brainwashed the public on this subject, running with percentages that don't account for asymptomatic cases. Healthy 17 year olds have virtually no mortality risk here. In Texas 9 kids between the ages of 10-18 have died with (with - not OF - another huge distinction the media does not consider) Covid-19 - 6 of them had comorbidities. This is insanity. Millions of kids are losing some of the best moments of their lives and they deserve more from their adults than this political bull****.
The kids may have a low mortality rate. But what about the people they come in contact with, including the elderly? This is a highly contagious disease. One person's freedom is another person's health threat...

Seems like they have a *personal* decision to make. Don't be around the elderly or take extreme precaution when they need to. Or don't play. If you're scared, stay home. We cannot nerf the world for everyone.

Aren’t they at risk by just playing football? Aren’t the potential injury issues fairly vast?

In Georgia we have been and are still preparing to play this FALL season in spite of many school districts doing virtual only. Of course this could change anytime. If ACC and SEC stay strong, I think we will play. If they opt out, they'll probably shut us down at HS level.
Wait. I had some guy on here telling me earlier that Ga. Was in complete Armageddon with the Covid.

Why is it ok to play football with concussion and CTE issues?
