Highest graded true freshman per PFF

Shavers is the least of my worries, for the record. I don't know enough about Nebraska but I felt they have recruited well enough under Rhule that he's playing over someone decent if he's on the field. Maybe I'm wrong.
We are on the same page. He’s a good player and our coaches obviously thought so

I’m not tripping over him doing well elsewhere though we are in a good spot at the position imo

The loyalty to state schools from small town kids in the Midwest can be wild. 9 out of the top 10 recruits in Iowa this class are going either Iowa or Iowa St. On the other hand, only 1 out of the top 10 in Indiana is committed to IU. I'd expect them to have some major flips near signing day.
Minnesota is my home state. So I've always had a soft spot for the gophers. Occasionally they will land a top local kid and he becomes like a God there. I can see why some guys would get the appeal.

4 of them low end 3 stars, until Lucas earned his 4th star very late, and a can't miss 5 star.

Brown - 546 ranked player overall
Shavers - 614 ranked player overall
Lucas - 331 ranked player overall
OJ - 735 ranked player overall

Bigger concern over the south florida decline is that our staff didn't recruit Isaac Brown, had Shavers committed and dropped him, let Wisconsin come down here and get Lucas committed and while they did want him and recruit him - they were late. Got OJ luckily so credit to them for that.

Can't go 1/4 when you could have easily been 4/4. At worst, when these players are in your back yard you have to hit .500. I'd love to have Brown or Lucas the next 2 years. Shavers, admittedly it seems I was wrong on him as well. Can never have enough instinctual linebackers and we let him walk.
This sounds like revisionist history a bit.
We had Kevin Riley committed til we flipped Jordan Lyle, plus **** Cat. How many RBs you want on the roster?
Shavers wasn't going to sniff the field at LB here this year.

Would Shavers or Brown even be getting significant playing time if they had signed here? A lot of these freshman all American lists come down to which guys actually get opportunities to play a ton as freshmen.

Do we value DBs like that tho?
I know this is kind of a topic of discussion. I’m actually most worried about this as a theme within the program. Now I know what the Cormani situation was, which makes me think we do value Db’s. But **** there are some head scratchers rn. I know they value slime highly too. We will probably bring in 2-3 dbs from the portal this year, to go along with a strong freshman class that will make a big impact imo

**** if we only had not slow played Lucas. If we had him and OJ we would be set at CB for the next 2 years at least. We tried to get him back but the damage was already done. I dont think he would consider transferring either.

Would he miss more tackles than Mauigoa?

Shavers doesn't play a whole lot and most of his success has been against scrub teams. Kiko nearly matched his yearly output in one game against FSU where he was the best tackler on the field for us.

At this stage just don’t talk **** about guys that are giving us our best season in 20 years. Bite your lip or ***** to your homeboys through text if you see something that makes your ****** sandy. Feel free to come on CIS and ***** and moan if we drop a game. Y’all aren’t the coaches you don’t need to break down the minutia of the game and most importantly most of the time all you mopey ***** are talking out of your *** anyways.

We also landed Adarius Hayes and Bobby Pruitt who both look really good

Shavers is playing great and that’s awesome, but I don’t think he would be playing much here if at all just given our depth
Good point. Shavers look good, but you can't take everyone and I like the guys we got.

The only miss I regret is Jeremiah Smith.

Was it really a miss so much as Smith making a business decision given we didn’t have an established quarterback signing day. Maybe he’d be wearing orange and green right now and tearing up college football for Miami had Cam signed before signing day. I don’t remember the calendar, so maybe that wasn’t possible. I don’t remember if Smith signed on early signing day or waited until national signing day. All I remember is Cam was late after Mario flipped him from the NFL. :)

If I’m not mistaken, and I might be, Early Signing Day is December 4 and the Portal opens December 9th? Seems backwards to me. I think the portal should open before early signing day so kids can possibly make a better choice.

We have a huge roster opening for a bad *** white boy. We've always had one on our runs.
Yeah, wishful thinking for sure but I’m sure many will try.

I dont see Perich going anywhere - but I’ve been wrong before. He’s already a gawd up here and is the team leader as a freshman already. He’s also from a very small town up here. I think he has 4 interceptions already and also serves as the KR.

Also to the Maroney comment - I would argue Antoine Winfield Jr was just as good / important. Don’t get me wrong Maroney was good.

This video of Perich is pretty funny:
