Hey guys

Have we tackled this bad on the second level this bad since Manny Diaz?
The regression in our tackling from the UF game to now has been quite disappointing. Porter Jr was pretty good, but #7, 19, 0, and 25 were definitely giving me flashbacks to the Diaz days. Watching #7 getting blocked 25 yards downfield on that reverse reminded me of another #7 on the Diaz teams that would get pushed downfield on every single run play.

No QB pressure, bad LB play and Blitzes that don't hit. That combo means you can't stop them. VT also played almost mistake free football. Which they haven't done all year. The turnovers were why this was a game. That holding call on Bell that reversed the touchdown was horrible. LBS have to be on their game to stop a RB like that. He was quick to the edge and our guys couldn't tackle him easily.

So just that I have this straight. Our fans mocked , laughed at VT and acted as if we were a machine. I mean they lost to Vandy and Rutgers right ? But now it’s “ that’s college football bro”. Fact is we showed up flat as **** for a nationally televised game with everyone watching. On top of that a pathetic schedule so everyone is already looking to pick this team a part. We made a meh VT offense look like the greatest show on turf and got blistered in the secondary. I think they punted twice.

We have coverage , tackling issues and let’s be honest a big talent issue in the secondary. We saw today what happens when the DL is invisible. Hopefully everyone is healthy and Bain is himself .
Cam looked off as well. Glad we won but im
Hoping this was more of us just playing like crap

You’re never as good as your best game, or as bad as your worst game. Definitely some concerns from last nights performance, but there’s no such thing as an ugly win. Time will tell how good this team really is, but for right now 5-0 is 5-0.

On to the next game.

They wasn’t considered dangerous all week and the one guy who had the balls to say it was murdered by the same posters making excuses.
I try to keep a lid on my penchant for mopery.

Saw and still see every acc game as a real contest.

Same spot as last year coming in 4-0; some fools gold - despite honest weakness assessments preseason finally exposed and the sky is falling?

Credit vt and usf for coming to play. Decent teams.

Clutch dem pearls!

Cal, UL, FSU, Syracuse, GT those are all dogfights in my book until they're not. It's CFB.

I hear what you are saying but counting on Bain, Rivers or Brown being back anytime soon seems like a fools errand. We know we won’t get anything real out of Mario. So just have to roll with the guys who are available.
I know but im trying to say what we needs more.

I don’t think we showed up flat. Not even crazy about that term it’s thrown around so losely in the CFB space.

It’s about execution. The term “flat” is 99% used when a team isn’t executing in the early stages of a game.

We were executing and in position to take firm control of the game.

We get a holding call then cam threw a bad int and this game goes in a totally different direction.

But I do ageee the first 4 games definitely hide some flaws we all know are there.

1: Cam potential turnover prone games

2: no big true dominant WR threat on the outside

3: the secondary especially the corners

4: run game. Scheme plus blocking

Oddly enough this is the least physical I’ve seen this team look under Mario.

The corners didn’t fight to get off blocks and tackling was terrible.
We started out the game with a careless turnover and then gave up an easy TD right after. That is the exact definition of coming out flat.
5 games in and I'm accepting this is who we are with Cam Ward. We're a pass happy air raid team

I'm surprised Mario is letting this happen but Dawson/Ward got full control of the offense. Those 3rd downs and longs were not fun to watch tonight
Lots of pressure on Mario to win and while
I don’t think Mario likes this style, he knows it’s the only way we continue to post Ws. We are a 7-5/6-6 team without Cam.

**** so many negative takes. It is college football and you need to survive games like these which we found a way. Vetch played a freaking great game. Our TE’s were one reason we won the game along with X who by the way is the best clutch receiver we have ever had at the U (not the best but the most clutch). Cam found a way in what looked like a sure L. Let’s see how our D does the next few games before we dismiss them. Even our great teams had tough games. No we are not there yet but we aren’t as bad as I am reading here.

Flawed team? We get in one fist fight with 3 turnovers that’s solely on 1 player and now the team is flawed? Gimme a break. Defense played like crap, they took too long to switch the assignments on those motion flat routes. Other than that players gotta make plays. Kiko lets up a 50 yard TD when he meets a RB in the hole. Cam magic gives and takes away on that first fumble, his first INT was bad he got played by the CB disguising man.

If Dawson opens up this run scheme a little we’ll be fine. VT always plays us with everything they have.
Get some of the complaints, but holding call doesn’t negate touchdown and we go up 21 to 7 , and we are rolling. What is a concern is the poor tackling. I understand they don’t want to tackle in practice because of injuries, but tackling in practice is conditioning to tackling in a game. Which would probably decrease injuries.

We're apparently not watching the same team. The secondary was terrible, the DL was exposed (injuries took a toll though), and LBs were average at best...Kiki got steamrolled by the VT RB but Wes played well for the most part. OL gets no push in the run game, and Ward committed 3 turnovers which you mentioned. This team lacks depth, and it was exposed big time Friday night
