Hetherman needs to change

Lucas and EOC were serviceable last year and now can't cover anyone.

Well we have a problem on defense with OJ and Antoine out.

You’re calling for DBs to replace our LBs on 3rd and long. 1. Our screen game gets even worse as the offense will just run receiver up the field and leave their backs really unaccounted for. 2. Tackling gets even worse. 3. Having more DBs means having 0 and 27 on the field. No bueno.

But on the other hand 9 and 1 are 100% targeted on passing downs.

The easiest help for the defense is to just tackle. WR screens go for at least 8 yards because the first guy there misses the tackle.

But I mentioned OJ and Antoine earlier. They are way more physical than O’Connor is and better players than Thornton, Day, and Mack are. OJ was due for a late 1st round grade going into this season. How many secondaries in the country can lose THAT guy and their 3rd best CB (Antoine) and remain good? Maybe Indiana?

Losing OJ and Antoine HURTS. Big time.

But I would like to see the analytics when 17 is on defense vs the pass instead of 1 and 9 together. The eye test looks different when he’s in there

It’s not the LBs only. We are playing corners back repeatedly in soft zone! This is Wefense all over again. With different looks. Lightfoot should not be in zone in the middle of the defense against a RB! He’s our best pass rusher, he needs to be getting after the QB! we continue to blitz from everywhere and have random guys in coverage, but we are playing soft zone behind it. Not getting hands on people and letting them run free. Recipe for disaster!

I don’t think we can jam at the line. Jamming just to do it isn’t gonna do anything. The DL not getting consistent pressure is the problem. Until that happens it doesn’t matter what the DBs do.

At least if they were in the middle even just standing there it might make the throws a little more difficult but right now if you want or need yds for a first or for whatever just run a guy behind the LOS cause we don’t have anyone there.

OJ is out, Antoine is out, Xavier I doubt is 100%, Fitzgerald is playing DB, but y'all think the defense is going to be stellar? Some of y'all aren't the brightest.
 
We need to stop with this spot zone **** and match the routes. We can't rush the passer if the ball is out within 2 because there's someone naked over the middle.

Beat us deep. But we need to stop with this short yardage bull****. We can't tackle well enough to play that way.

But when we do go into that, Hetherman doesn’t supplement with a LB who can cover a screen. Toure is great at the stopping the run. But I can route him up and I’m fat and slow.

I mean we get a sack. And I’m on my couch screaming watch the screen. We pin our ears back and what happens? They pop a 20 yard screen. T

The coverages he plays behind the Front 4 gives them no time to get there.

You saw what Edwards looked like when his first read wasn't wide open - he was sacked twice and fumbled once.

My gripe is on the DL. JT needs to earn his money the next four games. Injuries happen. But injuries have largely avoided the ends. Until we get pressure with four nothing any of us are debating rn matters.

I didnt say anything about ***n stellar. There is a gap between stellar and what we seen tonight. Allowing them to dink and dunk and not having to make any difficult throws. They were throwing short passes and we had no solution to even make it a little difficult and force the QB to atleast move from the first read. Thurman was their guy and we just allowed him to run wherever. Unacceptable.
