Hester officially retired

Probably deserves its own thread, but favorite Hester moment as a Cane?

Returning the opening kickoff against the gaytors and then proceeded to take off his helmet and stare down the gaytor fans in the temporary bleachers in the open end of the OB. TRUE CANE!

As pointed out by another poster, the night game against Louisville is up there also.

For me it wasn't on the field.

He stood up in the middle of an English class during the professor's lecture...walked in front of the quiet class and the professor with his folder/papers/notes in hand...threw them in the garbage...and walked straight out of the class.

I was just happy it was after the season when he was getting ready for the draft.

I will never forget his performance vs LOU in 04.
Dude singlehandledly willed this team to a victory with his returns.
Mike Tirico's play by play, especially on his TD return was gem.

His Deon impressions has he danced into the endzone were classic, especially on the blocked FG vs the Turds in the Peach.

As a Bears fan, my favorite was vs the Broncos. Cutler was playing for the Broncos and Hester returned a kickoff, a punt, and Sauerbrun had to try and punt it out of bounds in OT to give them great field position. I was there that day and will never forget it.

Let's not forget the kickoff return vs NCST when he stared down the NCST sideline as he bolted past them on a house call.

May be technically retired but he'll always be active in the nightmares of a generation of college and NFL special teams coaches.

Not that it was genetically possible but based on the way football is trending toward kick returns there will DEFINITELY never be another guy like Hester.

The return against the gator. Caught 5 yards deep in the endzone. Scored 11 seconds later. That is lightning fast by anyone''s standards.

Has to be the return against UF, I was fortunate enough to be at the OB that night. Place was absolutely rocking after that return.

This.

Yeah, I was in the WEZ that night and it was utter chaos after Hester took it to the house. I honestly don't know if I've ever seen a faster 20 yard burst than the one Hester had on that return from the goal line to the 20 yard line to bust through the lane and into the open. He had some unreal returns but don't think any can top that one.

Yup I was just about to say. That return was the best to me. The way he was blazing down the field while looking sideways was straight swag.

I, unfortunately, was stuck in the mass of humanity trying to get to our seats so did not witness the return. But the stadium roar was absolutely deafening!!! Just awesome.

Don't want to be negative but Like Calais Campbell, Sam Shields and others Hester proved by his performance in the Pros that he should have contributed more at the U. Coaching was no doubt a factor. I don't want to take anything away from what he did in the league however. Arguably the best ever as a kick returner.

i don't know that the **** you are talking about. If you were in the OB when he was ****ting on opposing teams, you would probably feel different. Shhiiiii if you were there when he returned the opening kickoff against the gaytors, you would know how much he meant to the U and us fans.
I was certainly there for the return against the Gators and for most games for the five decades before the Gator return. He was talented for sure but you can't just make your stripes returning punts and kick offs with his talent. As a WR he was average. I can be convinced. What else do you remember besides the Florida kickoff return?

A special teams play that wasn't a return, but big at that point in the game was his fg block vs F$U in 04

The UF kickoff return is the stuff legends are made of...

My skull nearly exploded all over the OB WEZ.

What a privilege to have watched this dude's career.
