Have a plan when you pick up a drink. Once you start hitting the stuff, it’s too late. For NFL players, there really is no excuse, they don’t even have to pay for a safe ride and there is a whole network there that will look after them.

Yes they do. They have control the whole time their getting more plastered knowing they haven’t lined up a ride. You don’t accidentally drink and drive.

Herndon will be more than OK. His life isn’t “over” as some have suggested. He just needs to never do this ever again and he’ll have a nice, rich football career.

I agree. He will be ok. Hopefully he has learned a lesson through this entire ordeal.

If he killed me or a family member I absolutely would take it personally. I think the elderly guy he injured by being a selfish ****** is taking it pretty personally.

I don't care who he played for. I lost a friend in high school who was hit by a drunk driver. F this guy. Hope he gets cut and gets his life together in recovery. IDGAF where he played his college ball
 
First of all, he made a terrible mistake and he will pay a price to society. As he should. There is no doubt about that.

Secondly, someone was injured and let’s just hope the injury is not permanent, but at least we know it’s not severe in the sense of bone/spinal damage, brain/concussion damage, or paralysis, so that’s some consolation. There will be a more or less full recovery.

Thankfully, and most importantly, no one was killed.

To me, these are the three most important facts right now.

I’m not going to preach like I’m a saint from a pulpit like some of you. He’s a cane, I still support him, and hope he learns from his terrible mistake that he’s lucky he didn’t kill anybody and that now he has an opportunity to turn things around and educate others on the dangers of drinking and driving.

At **** funny about drunk driving.... No, I've never lost a family member to that, but just knowing how selfish that is..

Side note: I know 2 people that have said exactly that and later earned DUIs. Pretending like you're a good drunk driver is ******* stupid.

Has the opportunity to turn a negative through a learning process to get his act together and hopefully use his platform and his stupidity to help/mentor others.

While I detest people being sanctimonious in this thread, there is no “try not to do it again” situation here.

There is no “try” in these situations.

That’s not the message after a DUI. It’s DON’T ever do it again, HARD STOP. There’s no trying here.

Don’t give an impression of second chances. You got away with one and no one was killed. That’s enough. Don’t tempt fate twice.

I had 1 DUI. 20 years ago the 29th of this month. I was entering the summer between my junior and senior years of high school, and lost my drivers license for a year.

It’s pretty embarrassing to have to have your mom drive you or someone else pick you up during what is supposed to be the best year of high school.

That’s a young age to learn a hard lesson, bet you thought long and hard before getting behind the wheel drunk again.
 
I've driven drunk before drove up on curbs and still told my wife I never lose the edge as she smelled booze all over me , $2.00 happy hour doubles 4:00 to when ever sneaks up on you with all your bar buddies buying doubles for everyone feeling good laughing watching big screen , I was a huge power drinker.

This incedent could have VERY EASILY BEEN ME ABSOLUTELY YEARS AGO NO DOUBT WHAT SO EVER .....MEMORIES OMG.

Then get in car , been about 4-5 years since last beer or drink so happy ,go to Canes games and it never enters my mind.
