Here's what I know

I'm with you. I keep going back and forth. I think if Mario hires an aggressive, stud OC, then I lean toward him, but otherwise, I lean toward Lane knowing that he would. at least win the Coastal this coming year and possibly the ACC. But, Mario with stud coordinators trumps Lane and would put us in the elite by the end of the 2nd year.

Love either one of them.
On the flip side, Lane is a cheaper option. I think we would be able to spend a lot more to bring an elite DC and defensive staff in with Lane.

Cronyism is exactly what it is.
How so? You have billionaires willing to fork over tens of millions to the athletic department, other than the Soffers, for the first time EVER. You realistically don't think they have a say with their investment short term and long term? Maybe just maybe the big money that matters think Cristobal is the right guy. Maybe they are wrong. I have my hesitations but I'm just a senior ticket holder with a kid at the university. That being said this is more than just "hey, we had banana splits at Swenson's during our senior year at CCHS and let the good times roll for old time sakes" situation. If in the end it is Kiffen, then that is fine. Everybody discounts his off field and maturity red flags except for the big money people. If I am Mas or Lemonis or Ruiz or Soffer, I would at least have some hesitation to pull the trigger on Kiffen and question whether the guy will be around in 3 years, too.

That’s fair.

But I’ll say this, Mario has to ace the OC hire, if he doesn’t get that right he’s in for a long journey to rebuild Miami.
What’s your take on Joe Moorhead? I thought that was a good hire so I think this is more of a product of Anthony being a bust as opposed to Mario failing with that hire.

Either way, if Mario is the guy I imagine he starts fresh with a new OC here instead of bringing Moorhead with him.

That’s fair.

But I’ll say this, Mario has to ace the OC hire, if he doesn’t get that right he’s in for a long journey to rebuild Miami.
Liberty I agree with you in that Mario is hired and tries to go 1996 up in here we’re cooked. But at fiu he did hire satterfield who isn’t exactly a ground and pound guy but an outside zone type. Not that I’m an expert. And Moorhead may not be a fit here but he did quite well at Penn state so on paper seems like a good hire. Maybe Mario would be willing to adapt to his surroundings. Ain’t no Sewell brother walking through these doors

To all the anti Mario people but pro Lane please explain how one can have those strong opinions. I’m not even an anti Lane guy but that dudes resume is the definition of meh. He’s had as many bad moments as good. He’s a great play caller but somebody known not to love recruiting, rubs people the wrong way and thinks he’s smarter than he really is. Does that sound familiar ? That guy just got fired at UF, only difference one is risky as **** off the field. Like I said I’m not anti Lane , I’ve actually defended him a lot. I just don’t get ripping a guy with a better resume and a far better recruiter , but you love this guy.

Top level NCAA experience/National Championship experience

NFL Experience/Multiple Pros developed under his watch

Multiple individual award winners (will come in handy when recruiting top level skill players)

Spearheaded Alabama's offensive evolution

Schematic adjustments/evolved his own style and playcall in particular to his personnel, something Miami has rarely ever had

Rebuilt FAU in short order and is in line to establish a record level of regular season wins at an SEC stop. Had Tennessee on a positive trajectory before he left.

As mentioned before, what does it matter if you're a "far better recruiter" if you can't get the most out of it on GameDay?

Miami can go the Ed Orgeron route and hope they catch fire, but we've seen Miami scoff at a Mike Leach in favor of the CEO model. I'd just like them to try something different

If money is not an issue and they're serious about doing a comprehensive search for HC, then they need to call Urban and make him say no, regardless who becomes AD. He'd instantly put this current roster in the ACC championship game.

Why do you think Lashlee chose Miami over Oregon? Could it be that Manny gave Lashlee free run and Mario didn't? If Mario retains Lashlee, Lashlee will run the offense Mario wants and if you think we're gonna see what we've seen in TVD's best moments you're mistaken. Mario will look at some of those droughts we go through and demand a more concerted effort to run the football. And you don't just fix the OL just by his presence. That is done by multiple recruiting classes. He will want to be "physical at the LOS" and eat clock. Thats who he is.
Personally, I don't believe Mario is this narrow minded. I'm not judging him based on this season because Brown can't throw a football, and they have good Rbs and a solid o line so yeah, they're going to run.

I think the Herbert fiasco gets blown out of proportion so much.

Cronyism is exactly what it is.

I don't think people know what cronyism is. Cronyism is not appointing your friends to senior positions.

Cronyism is appointing UNQUALIFIED friends to senior positions they don't deserve.

Getting Mario f'ing Cristobal to come be the HBC at UM is NOT cronyism.

Its nice. That’s his career achievement ? Here’s the keys to Miami.

You do realize Mario's greatest career achievement is 12-2, in a very weak conference, with a NFL top 5 pick at QB.

And that is with choking away a playoff birth vs an unranked ASU team.

If you think what Lane has done this year is impressive i raise you with another coach at a Mississippi school. Now this is impressive , if we’re hiring on a one year deal I say take this guy, he’s available. NEVER BEEN DONE. He’s also a championship winning OC!!

That’s fair.

But I’ll say this, Mario has to ace the OC hire, if he doesn’t get that right he’s in for a long journey to rebuild Miami.
At this point.. he better nail both. And I want Mario fwiw. But after suffering through D'onofrio, Baker and Manny on one side and Richt, Enos and Coley on the other, we've seen what its like to have a **** coordinator on one or both sides of the ball.

And with Lane I would argue that by the time there is enough talent here to compete for a championship he will leave for a better job and we will be looking all over again.
We have the talent to win the coastal and possibly the ACC championship next year. We already have pieces on the defense with some holes that potentially could be filled via the portal. The problem is going to be our schedule since we go to a&m and Clemson.

I agree. What do you think of Moorhead? He was great at PennState and they have a decent offense now with a bad QB.

I wasn't a fan of the prior OC (Arroyo) although he got a head coaching job.
I think Moorehead works in the B1G style because it’s all centered around running the Football.

From a personnel standpoint Miami needs an Air Raid OC, that incorporates the run game as well but isn’t dependent on it in the same way that Moorehead will be.

I’m not that high on Marcus Arroyo either, I remember watching his offense at OK St & have watched about 4 games of UNLV this year & his system is not very good IMO.

Mario usually hires guys who he has personal relationships with, so if Arroyo gets fired at UNLV (which he probably will) I wouldn’t be shocked if he hired him here.

But I think it will be in his best interest to hire an OC that runs a system that centered around a high volume passing attack. I’d go all out to steal Zach Kittley from WKU, but I doubt he’d do that lol.

The literal people who D mentioned in the initial post. If you didn't feel good about them leading the charge at that time, then you should have zero optimism now.
So guys who have no background in hiring coaches. Yet they've got a number 1 and want an AD to fall in line. Perfect

I’ll say this, Oregon is going to be LOADED next season. I can’t say the same for Ole Miss.
