Here's what I know on Mark Matthews...

I actually really enjoyed the Texas A&M game last year. The fans really were a pleasure. That said, the cultural shock from South Florida to there is something. And all those wannabe cadets cosplaying that they’re in the army is pretty weird.
the fans were super nice. the town is **** and I was thankful I stayed in Houston the night before and did the day drive

When you put this kind of effort in and they choose another school and actually leaves we shouldn’t take them back . Miami shouldn’t be a back up plan . Mario seems to be like this already accept for smith lol

Yeah, you probably can't treat an 18 year old who makes a bad decision the same way one would treat a spouse who makes a bad decision...

they moved from LA to Miami and now back to LA. quite diff than moving from FTL to middle of nowhere texas (legit middle of nowhere)
I would think its not uncommon since they get so many highly rated athletes there. And even towns that are more boondocks than College Station. I have been through there a couple times. Some people welcome getting away from the urban areas, believe it or not.

I trust Mario, he can be flipped before it's all said and done. It's all verbal, as long as it's not pen to paper Mario has a chance. **** Fletcher was flipped at the last second before the actual signing day, he was “committed” to Ohio State. These cats still have to play their senior season in High School. Anything can happen before early signing day in December.
NIL had pushed the timeline up 8-12 months way too early. Texas A&M or Miami can come out of the gate with a losing record. But I find it hard to believe that if Miami were to make it back to the chip that it wouldn’t be a filp. Just go 1-0 every week

there's urban areas and wanting to be elsewhere and then there is that town.

My kid goes to Heritage and one of the football players shares the same agent as Mathews. I was told its about playing time. He is being promised to play as a Freshman. He is 98% gone is what he said. We already knew he was gone but that's the info that was shared with me.

2% chance- we’re still in it!

If MM is really looking for guaranteed playing time as a freshman, he’s missing that old school Canes mindset that is the foundation of our restored culture:

I AM THE BADDEST MUHFUCCA ON THE PLANET…
(Read in DJ Williams voice or Al Blades’s voice)….. and I will beat your *** for that playing time.

Agreed.

The math is mathin though with that reasoning - Miami’s bag is up tops. And you know Mario is selling him on Samson development path and not necessarily Cantwell/Cici path. And 8&4 is known to make promises left and right to recruits coming out. What happened to that #1 class they had a few years ago?

Would love to have him, but we’ll be alright either way.

Sounds like Mario aint promising him that. He was that good he would come n win a starting position. Sound like the kid dont want to compete. Thats call being honest to the kid. Some dont have work ethic some just want things to be giving to them. If thats the case. We dont want those kind folks. We want competition this aint high school folks.

Agreed.

If Texas A&M is definitely guaranteeing him a starting spot, I still find it really hard to believe we have the better offer. Unless they completely lowballed the **** out of him and he agreed. The market for a Tackle of this caliber is expensive, and I would assume Matthews camp knows that

Agreed.

Yep. They likely couldn't afford to keep that class together, for multiple reasons.

Just because miami have a bigger offer it doesn’t mean it’s way more. He is going to get paid a lot wherever he goes

Agreed.

I don’t think it’s a stretch to say we have the best offer. Not saying 8&4 made a chump offer. Just making up numbers here, but say we offer him 1m but no guarantee and 8&4 offered 900k but guaranteed a starting position.

He may see early starting time as a path to more money in years 2-3.

Shortsighted, yes, but definitely possible.
