Money has made an idiot out of all of us. Its going to be fight to the finish but I like our chances.
We are offering loads of money to Matthews. This isn’t a money thing. I still can’t believe we are gonna lose Matthews to them of all teams. Hopefully things change. I think last spring Cantwell to UGA was chatter. Nothing shocks me with recruiting. Wright is the perfect example

I think Matthews is being severely impacted by Cantwell starting at LT. Say what you want but if you put Matthews on a lie detector I think he would admit that he wants to play LT in college and he knows he will not play the position at UM. He may not play LT at TAMU either, but at least they can promise him that he will. UM can’t even effectively lie because it’s obvious with Cantwell where he will be playing for 3 years barring injury.

And for the crowd that thinks position on the Oline should not matter, well that’s easy for you to say. But it may matter a lot to Matthews. And if it does, I don’t think even Mario can close this deal.

Yeah this is fair and I've thought about this as well.

However, Francis is the easy rebuttal point and example here. He PLAYED Right tackle and was actually DRAFTED as a GUARD and STILL went in the TOP 10 in round one.

Those are the facts, and they are undisputed. This is a case where Mario and staff will need to make Mathews realize that in regards to his future, the NFL no longer ONLY values true LT's as top 10 picks. You can be a RT or even a guard and still get drafted in the top 15 overall with no issue.

I would be truly shocked if Mario doesn't land this kid. He'll be a Cane when it's all said and done.

He doesn’t even play left tackle on his high school team. He also just watched Francis and Fano go round one playing RT.

Everyone is just guessing here. Some kids just want to go away for school.

I agree with you. I just hope the people in MM’s ear understand that as well as you do.

Having to play LT is an antiquated view of the position, but to people who grew up in the 80’s-90’s this was seen as a big difference. The entire reason Michael Lewis wrote the Blindside is that he was interested in why the LT was the 2nd highest paid position in the NFL.

FYI, the book was originally supposed to be about Steve Wallace, the big free agent LT the 49ers signed the year after Thiesmann gets destroyed by Lawrence Taylor on Monday Night Football. Wallace, who lives in Atlanta and is a very nice guy and coached my son in little league baseball, turned Lewis on to Michael Oher because Wallace felt Oher’s background made for a more compelling story. Talk about humble.

Dodger Stadium would look like this…

Soda - $11 (served in a souvenir cup!)
Hot dog - $9 (Dodgerdogs are longer)
Cotton Candy - $9 (ghey)
Beer - $19 (draft). Michelada - $27

Parking - $40 ahead of time; $45 if not. $65+ for preferred parking.
Game tix - $100 if you want to see the field without binoculars for a weeknight game against a mid team.

If you’re throwing back 17 cold ones at a ball game, A) I hope you aren’t driving and B) you need to have your head examined for literally pizzing that money away. C). I’m not judging 👀
Drive after 17 beers? He can Uber Georgia players and still be safer

The only thing that would surprise me with Matthews is him picking TAMU. I have blind faith in Mario here. Too natural of a fit all around.
It would be pretty shocking if he didn't come to Miami. It's just hard to fathom Mario losing out on such a perfect fit. 5* OT in our own backyard is about as much as a "layup" as we can ever expect with Mario/Mirabel on staff.

A&M is actually loading a pretty good class. They could finish #1. They have taken over from Texas over that side. And you remember Texas was a thorne in our side the first 2 full recruiting cycles when Cristobal came in. And came into FL as well and took players we were after like Baxter.

Where are you guys getting this wanting to play LT in college? He’s literally never played it in the varsity level and likely won’t play it this year.

On paper they may make a run at the best class on paper. Unfortunately for them, is they would be beating their own record and that class was a dud.

I can’t recall which interview it was but it came off as pretty clear that he wants to play LT in college. I’m sure he’s been told it’s the big $$ position on the Oline. Whether true or not that is certainly the perception of many.

Surprising that he would prioritize playing a position he hasn’t played before. Especially considering he likely wants to start as a freshman. Hard enough to start as a freshman even at a position you’re comfortable at.

Gap in RT and LT salaries has decreased in recent years. I think Whirfs and Sewell make the same.

As for MM.. I’ve never heard him wanting to play LT in any interview or in any convos with anyone I’ve spoken to.

He’s not playing until year 2 anyway. He needs to gain weight and get stronger.

Oh we of little faith! You just can't help some people PTSD is just so bad on this board, let the process play out please.

This board is hilarious. You all act as though Mario and Dennis haven’t been through this for three years running with 100 recruits each season.

Of course the agents for the #1 tackle are going to have him take his visits and talk up his experiences. Of course that list would include the highest NIL programs and top OL programs. Of course they wouldn’t let him commit until at least a few rounds of bidding happened to see where the market price was settling. They’d be committing malpractice if they didn’t.

Do you all think Mario doesn’t know this is what’s happening?

Every single year some of us get sucked up in this drama. Hey, I did, too, for years. Pre NIL was even worse because it was all bags and uncles.

Let the staff bake. If they don’t land him, there is a good reason. But I expect they’ll get their guy.
