Here's what I know on Mark Matthews...

Open note of things to consider:

Don’t ***** this up young man! You are a really strong talent, but the road is littered with talented kids that spurned their hometown of Miami, and more importantly, the young kids in your own community who look up to you, only to regret that decision in a number of ways. You might be making the biggest mistake and experiencing the most significant lost opportunity of your life. In the immortal words of Thomas Sowell, “there are no solutions, there are only trade-offs.”

So what are the trade-offs?

Coaching - you have the opportunity to be coached by two of the best offensive line coaches in the entire country, and to show you how much they prioritize that offensive line, they just brought in a Tight Ends coach who received the Broyles Award for….having the best offensive line in the country. There is no other team at any level that places this type of emphasis on having exemplary offensive lines, and developing offensive line players.

Many blue-blood schools pat themselves on the back because they get 5-star players drafted in the NFL – however, it is not as difficult to get an already highly talented player and turn them into NFL players. What is far more impressive is when you take lesser talented players and develop them into NFL draft picks and Cristobol and Mirabal have few, if any, competitors on their level, and those guys are already coaching in the NFL. Coach Cristobol learned and played under Hall of Fame coach Jimmy Johnson and worked with Nick Saban, as well as developing Penei Sewell, and recent first round selection Francis Mauigoa, among countless other linemen? Any money you make in current NIL money will pale in comparison as to what you will make if you develop into a top level NFL player.

Hometown Community - Other schools always like to negative recruit us with how many people they can shoehorn into their stadiums, versus how many attend our home games. The answer is simple; when Miami is winning, there is nothing like that hometown crowd and energy. Miami has not had great success over the last two decades, but that is changing in a big way, and when they are winning, nothing can match that atmosphere, NOTHING!

In small college towns, people show up in droves, because that is the highlight of their week – there is nothing else to do there. In Miami, they show the energy when teams are winning and to prove it, there is only one team that holds the all-time record for consecutive wins in their home stadium…it isn’t in College Station, Tuscaloosa, Athens, Red Stick or even Columbus…it’s a 58 game home winning streak in the city of MIami, and that record is likely to never be broken. Billionaires and celebrities like Lebron, Jeff Bezos, and Oprah aren’t looking for scenic views in the college towns mentioned above, they could live anywhere and they chose to live in Miami. Our home field hosts Super Bowls, College Football National Championships, and will host World Cup matches, what do the college town stadiums host?

Honest question – do you think anyone in College Station will remember you after your 3-4 years there? What if you don’t develop up to your potential? Do you think you will be hailed as a College Station hometown hero 20 years down the road? There is nothing like showing out for your hometown community! From the young kids that will look up to you and will make you their inspiration for why they played football and became household names themselves. Just look at the local kids and how they reacted to seeing Malachi Toney in person. Do you think you can develop that kind of legend in College Station? There, you are another top level recruit that may or may not pan out, but they had the number 1 recruiting class of all-time, and how did that all work out? How many of those players are still there and how many of those players have developed over time? The connection you make to the college and the city it’s located, is a lifetime connection. After reaching the top levels of the sport, do you think those players go, “man I cannot wait to travel back to [insert any of the college towns above]!” They do that at Miami, particularly in the winter!

You cannot buy a championship team, as many teams have repeatedly found out. It’s about chemistry and how players play together. It’s developing a winning culture, and if Mario and Alex are recruiting you, it’s because they believe you can fit into that winning culture and mentality. Don’t lose out on that rare opportunity. I have no doubt Coach Cushing is a decent coach, but A&M is his first experience coaching at a top level program. There is nothing wrong with that, but are you willing to take a risk on your entire future on a coach who has been at A&M for 2 seasons? Just asking for a friend.

Unmatched Fraternity and Brotherhood - No other school can duplicate the brotherhood and family that is developed at Miami. Others can say that as a cliche, but you don’t see the level of family and closeness that former players have with each other, with current and past players and coaches, and The U itself! Few teams have had the success Miami has had in the short time of their dynasties and those are truly historical. Miami can roll out a group of gold jacket wearing NFL Hall of Famers on their sidelines, who can appear at the center of Hard Rock stadium, and we are not even done, as we may possibly have the record for the most NFL Hall of Famers of all time within the next several years.

You’d have to dig up the bodies from their cemeteries if you wanted to assemble the Hall of Famers for most of the other schools at the top of that list. I have no doubt, the current players and coaches will be appearing on the latest version of The U PART 3 talking about their national titles! There is no money in the world that can replace that type of brotherhood and legendary status! Do you think other schools have that mystique and legend? Not to my knowledge, except for maybe one, and that coach is gone and they are trending in the wrong direction. Become a part of that winning story, and keep in mind, we went into their 100,000+ seat stadium, and beat them in front of their home crowd. We also hold a 4-2 all-time series record against them. Don’t mess this up young man, you and your family deserve better!
You had me with the Thomas Sowell quote!!!

Agree but can't blame the staff for not giving up.Dmoney and Pete had Lance on today talking about Mathews and Olubobola and there is a bit off a drop off from Mathews to Obubola.
Well yea. Matthews has more experience and played against the best competition.

Would be awesome if we are leaking bad news on purpose to fly under the radar a bit.
Agents gonna agent. So far every elite OT we have landed was heavily rumored to be leaning away from us two weeks before signing even seeing some crystal balls drop. SiSi to UT and Cantwelll to UGA, Samson to wherever. I also recall the staff always sort of leaning into it and playing like they really thought they could lose the prospect. Probably because it is recruiting and you never know but whatever just cause D$ reports inside the hectic they are concerned doesn't mean its OV.

Why wouldn't you as an agent tell the press your prospect is leaning away from their favorite just to see if they will up the bag even if they have zero intention of signing anywhere else. Its not like anyone would actually tell you no if you committed to them. I am still holding out hope all this A&M crap is just the agent posturing for a bigger bag for Mark and he will stay home whether we up it or not.

Did anyone hear the analysis? I have no idea who the analyst is but he lost all credibility when he said Mathew’s was a reincarnation of Joe Thomas and was guaranteed to be a 1st round pick in 3 years. I couldn’t tell if he was kidding or not but that’s a level of hyperbole that loses all credibility. Listen to someone like Greg Cosell talk about traits and compare it to what they were saying. I mean who seriously compares a high school kid to a hall of fame tackle.

Imagine during the draft last week and the announcers said- Mendoza, the next Tom Brady, Bailey, the next Reggie White, Love, the next Walter Payton, Tate the next Jerry Rice. And that’s with players who have 3 years of college tape. Im sorry but comparing a high schooler to Joe Thomas shows serious judgement issues.

Also look at all the mock drafts and see how they play out a year later. And that’s with college tape.

Yeah it was obvious watching both films back to back. I was wrong. Matthews is a tier above Olu.

Unfortunate luck that he has no love for the home school.

For a guy who apparently had his decision made a few weeks ago, he certainly seems like in a rush to commit lol

How’d the in-home go last night?

Let me guess.

Miami gave him a lot to think about. This one might be tighter than it looked early in the week. Miami helped itself big-time. It’s still likely A&M but it’s too close to call as of now.

How’d I do?
We’re in a better spot than people realize. Two weeks ago, you heard that he already had his mind made up. If he What’s taking him so long? One would assume that if he liked A&M so much, he would have already committed.

Also, do people think it’s a coincidence that guys lile Dmoney and Flo are constantly emphasizing this has nothing to do with money? Those orders came right from the boss himself lol

Idk where he’s going to pick, but he doesn’t seem as close as people make it seem

I would say they both faced similar tough competition. Obviously, STA plays against national programs, but Olu plays at private school in North Jersey which plays in a very good conference.
the guys matthews have seen in practice i slikely better than who olu have ever seen.

North Jersey privates are good talent wise but were talking sta here and south florida. Matthews is seeing likely 3 power 5 dl every day since he has been in the 9th grade. Thats why i have him above olu on being able to play right away.

You can see from camp footage Olu seeing a step up in talent...that you wont see bother Matthews.

Both are what I like though as athletic tackles with good movement and length...Matthews + is his uber athleticism...when he hits s&c hes gonna be a bookend...Olu needs that strength as well.
