Herbstreit said #2 Miami losing to #3 Clemson would not drop

I think the under rankings & bumps like we saw the past 2 weeks are done intentionally to generate conversation & grab attention. I also think a week's worth of the comitte being reminded of things like the fact that Clemson was ranked ahead of us with a loss to a team we beat helped them get some better prespective. Hocutt mentioned that exact reason when explaining our jump & gave us props for battling back after being down twice this week vs UVA. Completely changed his tone. This team is taking respect, no questions asked.

You think that affects anyone. I never met an athlete or played with one that expected to lose ever. Every time they step on the field they expect to win regardless of what some media members might say.
 
We don't have anything to worry about when it comes to the mentality of the players. Team leaders like Shaq and Rosier have been saying all year that they come here to win rings. They are not going to go into the Clemson game saying "Well if we lose today it will be alright."
It will be unacceptable to come this far and lose.
 
good thing herbsteit - who has no say in it - says we will be in no matter if we lose to clemson close and dont lose to pitt.

let me put this delicately, beat the **** out of both these teams and leave nothing to chance.

If the committee puts us at 2 after a lackluster performance against uva and Clemson mauling citadel, don’t think we need to maul Pitt to stay at 2 but we’ll see. Whether we’re 2 or 3, if we lose to Clemson, we still need wiscy to lose.

We beat a poor Pitt team and Clemson beats a good S Carolina team may result in Clemson jumping to 2 and us back to 3. No room for error. I still maintain that we must beat Clemson to make final 4.
 
I'm ok with a modest win vs Pitt, going into ACCCG as underdogs, which further inspires the team to beat the **** out of Clemson.
No questions about playoffs there.

Agree. I think the committee puts a lot of value in staying undefeated (hence our hopping Clemson). So if we lose, I think the committee just lumps us with all other teams with losses and from there, total crapshoot

Agreed I wouldn't doubt they fvck us if we lose to Clemson. Especially if Alabaga loses to Auburn, I see the committee putting a one loss Alabaga team in over a one loss Miami.

Best case scenario for us in case we do lose to Clemson is for Michigan to beat OSU this weekend. Then have OSU beat wisky, in the big ten title game, and have Alabaga win out. But I prefer we just beat the brakes off of Clemson and take our spot.

With the schitzo committee, Clemson could very well get back to #2 with a win of a ranked South Carolina while we beat a losing record Pitt team.

Just sayin'...

Just win. I believe in this team.
 
Being #2 in the playoff rankings helps the Canes alot because lets say they lose a close game to Clemson most likely they wont drop out of the top 4.

South Carolina should not be ranked in the top 25 but yeah they could easily go ahead of us next week in the playoff rankings if they beat down the South Carolina now if they barely beat South Carolina in an ugly game and we dominate Pitt than their might not be a change in the rankings going into the ACCCG.

However there is another playoff rankings after this weekend and honestly I can see them putting Clemson back at #2 if they beat #2 4 South Carolina.

Feel many are over looking that they ranked USCe where that would be a better win on paper than beating Pitt. That game for Clemson is also away like ours.

The ranking before the ACCCG can have Miami back at #3 . We take of business it does not matter but if we dont against Clemson then we need Bama to win out and Wisconsin to lose.

yes, it can affect a bunch of teenagers for sure. Obviously no competitor wants to lose. But focus can be lost when you get complacent. Happens all the time in sports.
 
The attendance at the UVA game is what got us to #2 . Every CFB talking head was saying that Miami fans wouldn't show up for that game and that the stadium would be empty. Well, The crowd showed up and was going nuts especially for the Turnover Chain.

The committee members are no idiots. They know that Miami in the CFB playoff would be huge ratings. And now that the fans have proven they'll show up, and the turnover chain has become such a huge piece in the national conversation, the committee is trying to give us a way to make it in even if we lose to Clemson.

I have found the path if we dont beat clemson and here it is:

MIAMI beats PITT
BAMA wins out
CLEMSON wins out (obv)
TCU beats OKLAHOMA

doesnt matter but

WISCONSIN wins out or OSU wins out

Here's the thing. Currently they have OSU BEHIND ND. Now, how badly must they think of OSU to have them behind the team we curb stomped? OSU is no threat to us unless we lose to Pitt and Clemson, which eliminates us anyway. They will make up some ground by beating Wisconsin, but nothing is going to erase that whoopin they took at the hands of Iowa. They see the stomping we gave ND as more acceptable for ND than their performance against Iowa. No way they jump us. An undefeated Wisconsin, sure.

Heck, I'm not all that convinced OU will stay ahead of Miami. They lost to Iowa State, while our only loss would be to Clemson. After the mess their QB pulled, it would be easy to see the committee being justified in keeping Miami ahead of them. Of course they wouldn't say that contributed, and could point to Miami's loss being more acceptable, but in their minds I bet it makes a difference.

it might have had to do with us winning the game too
