Herbert off the team...again

Herbert was a brutish fossil, symbolic of a decayed era gratefully forgotten. But he's just another recent recruit who left the program early, and it's clear that Diaz has failed in developing a culture by plugging holes with mercenary transfers. The players would rather their boy N'Kosi Perry was still here instead of King, but they don't get to make those decisions.

It's probably asking a lot but it would be nice to have a few years of sustained good recruiting classes with few defections. 2020 and 2021 are hanging tough but continuing to play favorites will lead to more players exiting this dumpster fire before the next guy takes over I'm afraid. However, it's not too late to reverse the trend and keep the 2020-21 kids from transferring the **** out of here. PLAY THE FRESHMEN!

This is ALL that remains from the 3 classes of HS recruits that preceded the current regime (2019 is still considered Richt's imo).

31 players out of 85 on the current roster were recruited out of HS and signed with Miami pre-2020. That number should be closer to 55-60.

2016-17: McCloud, Harley, Ford, Gaynor, Jennings, Steed, Hillery, Carter, Donaldson
2018: Silvera, Pope, Wiggins, Hall, Ivey, Blades, Scaife, Harris, Mallory, Reed, Campbell, Miller
2019: Keontra, Huff, Harvey, Couch, Hunt, Hodges, Brooks, Nelson, Clark, Matocha

Scrambling to fix 6 year long problems has often worked in saving a job… LOL hopefully soon Miami will no longer be a place to collect free checks

Good luck young man if you read this. It didn't work out which seems to be the case with most we recruit. I'm not on the you suck or shouldn't have been offered bandwagon, but one that believes you could've gotten better coaching elsewhere. How many of you are there out there?

Best wishes in life, just keep working towards whatever. College athletics are great, but it ends for everyone at some point like it did me.

I would take Golden over this clown right now
If Golden would have just hired a different DC , he might had have some good success : I think his last year Golden promised a more aggressive defense. I remembered going out to the spring game, and watching our boys line up in a 4-3, the scheme was definitely more aggressive. Just as things were looking good, Mike Barrow quits on Golden just before fall camp, supposedly he was tick, as coach D was going backed to his soft 3-4

Herbert had a lot of potential coming out of high school; the injuries messed him up.(figured this thread should have at least one comment about him since he's mentioned first in the initial post).
Poor evaluation by Corch's

Nah. at the time it was a decent evaluation. Sometimes those trench guys take a few years to develop. Hindsight of course is a different story. Also Recall that he was originally a Michigan commit.

Obviously Michigan pulled out ...

If you’re a defensive coach and your defense is god awful then what do you bring to the table ? There’s a reason nobody will touch him after he left , he was his awful.

People think bringing a DC would help

False, Golden was going to run his defense no matter who was here

Walk-ons and Gatorade staff should be worried for their jobs as Manny tries to save his job.

Just for accuracy, Houston DID touch D'Onofrio after he left. But then again, also for accuracy, D'Onofrio wrote a great letter to Major Applewhite that really helped him get that job...

What changes can he make? Seriously? This is his his baby and his unit. He should fire himself, that would be a good start.

What is he going to do sacrifice Patke? None of these changes will matter unless he steps down which he won't.
Not that it would make much of a difference, but Manny should've been honest with himself. He should've realized that he's not a great developer of talent and his defensive scheme has holes. He should've hired an up and coming DC to completely revamp the unit he was in charge of when he became HC.

But, the problem is similar to Golden. Everyone thought if D'Onofrio got fired, everything would've been good. In the end, the program went as Golden steered it - right into the ground. Diaz is similar in some respects. I personally think Golden was the better coach looking back (which is telling because Golden was bad). But Manny Diaz has zero good qualities as a coach.
