In fairness all I know is what I read in the news and on this board. I don’t run in HS coaching circles, So I’m not claiming first hand knowledge, but I do recall multiple articles quoting those coaches saying that UM did not maintain the relationships as it shouid have.

If he was able to repair them at UF, that’s great, but as a HC there were issues.

Again, I’m not saying he isn’t a good coordinator, he always has been.

Randy Shannon is a garbage coordinator. His UCF defense is garbage. He has not done anything of note since Miami fired him. He's a journeyman linebackers coach at best.
 
Can we stop saying Randy can recruit? He cleaned out MNW one time and then did so poorly developing them he ended up getting fired. The list of kids he passed on in favor of absolute projects was staggering. The fence protecting South FL that Coker took down, Randy made into a toll free bridge. For every Sean Spence that fell in his lap there were dozens of Ricardo Allens who were "too short"... Hasn't bothered his NFL career...

Nope, its correct. Randy has not fielded a great defense since the last vestiges of the early 2000s recruits dried up while he was DC. Once he didn't have a bunch of future first round picks out there his numbers as a DC declined. That vanilla *** scheme only works if the roster is loaded with legends. Thats not happening any time soon.

Could we do worse, of course. But we can do FAR better.

How is Shannons top 20 and top 5 total defensive ranking at UF not great?
