Hear reports that we are killing it in the portal....

At some point, I would think everyone here would learn that for the love of God whether it’s recruiting rankings or portal rankings stop fixating on the raw number of people times points and look at the average points per player if you really want to know the quality of whatever class you’re looking at and that is never the default on either 24 seven or on three you have to filter it

In today's CFB, retention matters just as much as recruiting. Im honestly surprised we were able to keep as much of our roster as we did.

With signing Cantwell, you'd have to assume something would get in someone our OLs ears.

With Toure coming back, I expected us the lose a LB

The fact that we didn't lose anyone in our RB room is still surprising to me.

With as much as we were entertaining portal QBs, I think we all figured Emory was leaving.

There's no way LSU didn't try to lure Jaboree. With OJ and Lucas coming back, and O'Connor still being around, Id get it but we still were able to keep our DB depth, while adding Thornton

Kudos to Mario and the staff.

Mario has built an actual roster. He no longer needs to depend on a portal class to fill half the roster. That is why this team is built for the long haul. Meanwhile you have clowns like Memphis Mike and Deion trying to build a new team year in a year out. That’s not sustainable and it is showing big time. Yes Indiana is the outlier here. Let’s see how they perform next year.
Why do you care about Colorado and FSU and we heard the same about Indiana last year -- would you not take the natty win and worry about 2026 after that?

Indiana bought lots of transfers with multiple years of eligibility, and he also brought a few from his previous school

Yeah defense will still be good next season, secondary has a chance to be better, and the Dline has the potential to be elite again. Offensive line will be a question mark, assuming we get Mensah we’ll be better at QB, we’ll also be better at running back with Pringle gaining experience, Fletcher and Lyle coming back. Wr’s should get a upgrade ( no disrespect to Marlion and Daniels). I say it’ll all depend on how the oline situation plays out.

we have one of the most talented rosters in the country that made it to the national championship and we lost one significant depth piece so far / no starters to the portal

we also got a top qb, a top WR, OL/DL depth, a hard hitting safety, and the best edge rusher in the portal (he's better than princewill)

I'd say that's killing it in the portal

could have done better at LB and OT but you can't always hit on every single position group, so here's where development and coaching need to step up

This. Some programs are having to fill half of their rosters through the portal, so they are higher in those fake rankings. If they did a ranking of established roster + high school recruits + portal additions, we're easily in the top 10 or better.

Overall, I would give our portal a B-/C+, and that is assuming we do get Mensah and Barkate). I think some of our portal issues are out of our control, given the horrible timeline for teams making a team playoff run. We did a good job retaining talent, as imo PoPo, Simpson, and Kinsler are the only losses that actually hurt a little and I thought we would lose more due to all the tampering going on in the playoffs.

However, there have just been too many whiffs for me to go higher than B-... Perich, Biles, Seaton, Levitt stand out. Our strategy of big-game QB hunting finally came back to bite us, as I think had we gone Bailey/Raiola early, we could have used the extra money to grab Seaton... and I think we can all agree the Menash thing feels dirty (for me the timing right as the portal closes is worse than the contract aspect).

I would much rather have Mensah and Barkate, than Seaton and any other QB that was available in the portal. LT is an important position, but not even close to as important an as having the best QB.

And you assume that going after Mensah cost us Seaton. I don’t think there is any correlation. UM most certianly offered Seaton as much as they felt he was worth. The assumption that UM spent so much on Mensah that it meant losing Seaton to LSU is flawed at best, and unsupported by anything but pure speculation.

Dirty doesn’t matter to me if the action falls within the rules. It’s not UM’s moral obligation to impose rules against itself that are more stringent than what the NCAA enforces, or other schools abide by. That would be self defeating and no one is paid to do that.
