He didn’t have a great training camp

That was was Manny’s answer to why Rousseau didn’t play more early. “His talent is just starting to show out.”What are we asking of our kids in practice and why are we so slow to adjust when we see a kid has “it?” To quote the great one AI “we talkin bout practice.” This kid was a beast the moment he checked in. It was evident. And we are having him in a reserve spot because of a poor camp? I bet Zion is still starting because he had a good camp...

Personnel deployment is our staffs biggest weakens. Does 15 win us one of the games we lost? Idk, but I know for sure he would have put us in a better situation to win

Hmmmmm,

See, this is the bull chit that makes me mistrust Manny as our head coach. So the power of the internet is real. I'm going to post something that was said about Rousseau last year coming in as a scrawny, true freshman. No doubt, Manny witnessed this first hand.

And this is what was reported at Miami's first scrimmage this year:

So what in tf is Manny talking about? This is what has me worried about his tenure here. Recruits smell bull chit, and furthermore, the locker room will smell bull chit. If Manny would've said 'we didn't start Greg b/c we wanted to go w/ the older guys w/ experience initially,' I'm OK w/ that; but, to say Greg didn't have a great practice is not only disingenuous, it's a flat out lie.

Great coaches tailor their playbook, plays, and calls towards their players strengths. GR15 will be a first rounder draft pick. Patchan is a often injured player whose been in the programs for awhile. Watching GR15 now, I dont see how it was even a debate. If he wasn't catching onto the defense, then you simplify it!

Coincidentally, it seems like the entire DL wasnt catching on as quickly. UVA is the first game we've seen consistent effort from anyone except Hill and GR15. You know what that tells me? The starters knew their jobs were safe and were in cruise control. They shook up the DL and suddenly guys are shooting upfield out of their stance.

Stroud is going to have some really talented, athletic DL coming up. Nesta, Phillips, GR15, Miller, the duo from NYC... we got dawgs! It worries me that his guys gotta get whooped in one game to get up for the next one.
Great post! The only thing I hope is in the off-season stroud is moved baCk to the analyst job where he belongs and Jess Simpson comes back. Can you imaFine that talent being coached up by Jess? Nasty!!!

Rousseau is a ‘grandma’ kid. By that, I mean it would be obvious to your grandma that his talent is superior. It was obvious from the moment we saw him and discussed on this site by casual fans. The idea that they didn’t know is a huge indictment of our staff. I don’t even believe it. He can’t admit the truth, because it’s worse.

The truth is he has no instincts for being a HC or leading culture or high performing athletes, so he was afraid of going with the obvious, and instead reverted to what this program has suffered from since Coker. Some called it Shannonitis. Glutenizatiion, cheeseburgerization. Richterbation. Jimmy Johnson would have played the playmakers. Coaches with less confidence play the practice players. Don’t get me wrong, Practoce matters, but it isn’t the _only_ thing that matters.

That's the biggest crock of horsesh*t I've ever heard...

Rousseau killed it in camp, both Spring & Fall.

They started Patchan over him because he's a 5th year Senior & they thought him being an older experienced player would be more valuable early on vs UF.

But guess which DE had the most pressures & sacks vs UF?? Take a wild guess...

Anybody defending this decision is a Corch worshipping homer. It was a flat out wrong decision by Diaz & Baker.

One of the biggest flaws from a portion of this "phan base" is dumb **** like you just wrote. Coach clearly stated he wasn't going to get as much p.t until he stepped up his practice performance because the person in front of him was practicing alot better. You also left out Rousseau had a season ending injury as well I wonder why
Have you guys ever coached before?

Trust me, I'm not defending Manny at all here, but some of you are completely ridiculous when it comes to jumping to conclusions.

A lot of players show out in practice and then suck it up at game time. I was at a Heat game watching warm ups and some bench rider was hitting every shot he took and D Wade couldn't hit a shot to save his life. I was like ****, he really is past it. Then game time came and the unknown bench rider stayed unknown and D Wade was playing lights out, hit a buzzer beater in the air falling out of bounds, etc. The point is that you really never know what you're going to get, but as a coach you can only go off of what you've seen. As Rousseau started to get some reps, then he was given more, and then more and more. If he keeps it up I'm sure he will start. Calm down. That's just how some players are. Also why are we blaming Manny for everything? Yeah at the end of the day he's the one responsible, but you should be blaming position coaches for something like this.

Coached????? Most of these lousy ******** have never even wore a cup before

LCE, this isnt directed at you, just thought of the point reading your post.

the truth is, you can look at practice data and tell yourself whatever story you want, at least often enough.

to be a successful coach (or at a lot of other jobs), you gotta have an intuitive feel for what you’re looking at, and solving for. How do you trade off mistakes vs disruption. How do you understand practice vs. game. Our recent staffs would have never played Allen Iverson by their logic. Michael Jordan comes along once every century. You have to have a feel. Don’t see that with Manny. He has a feel for the other team’s scheme, not our guys’ abilities.

In one of the preseason interviews Stroud talks about how close he’s become to the Patchan Family. I knew we were f*cked the second I heard it.

You guys take these pressers too seriously. you expect Manny to say they ****ed up bigtime and made a big mistake? LOL
I reslly don’t understand your comment, other than as an a\effort to make an excuse and not see past it. What would the downside be for Manny to just say hey, we blew it? Unwillingness to admit error is a serious sign of issues. Not the least being defensiveness, insecurity, and confusion.

In the pre-season everyone worries about schemes and I was mainly saying I’m interested in seeing how Diaz handles the small details of being a head coach.

Timeouts
Challenges
Managing Personnel
Becoming a leader of men
Adjustments
Decision Making
Dealing with referees
And a slew of other small things that add up.
Fire on the sidelines or a deer in headlights rookie HC?

Haven’t been impressed with any of those things so far this season. Will be interesting to see how he progresses next season.

Him saying that being the HC is the same as being a coordinator today made me raise some eyebrows for sure

lmao. Missed that. It may be the same for him, but that tells you a ton about what he is missing, and not doing. Under pressure, most people revert to what they know how to do, not what they need to do. Manny knows DC, so that’s how he thinks about it, apparently.

Yes i agree in principle it would be great for Manny to be 100% honest and take accountability. But he's 3-3 and the fanbase is already half against him. If he was honest, he'd have to admit that he's doing a pretty terrible job, made some bad hires, and poor coaching decisions. No one is going to admit that because of the ramifications...Hence you get "coach speak"

Yeah I was watching that press conference and someone asked him what kind of learning experiences has he had as a HC.

Your boy said nothing and that it’s the same as being a coordinator. He doesn’t really have anything he’s learned about being a HC or something along those lines.

I was like 👀

Better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

It’s not all or nothing. He doesnt have to throw his staff under the bus. He can choose to tale accountability, however. It’s a sign of leadership.

Nothing hard about admitting mistakes. It won’t make his seat any hotter.

Ok so you want him to be "half truly honest / half coach speak." I agree that would better and is a fair ask. But realize what you are asking.

Yup. It’s such an unbelievable response. He should have just said I aint even going there, if that was his attitude.

Would have been really easy to say something like ‘everything. The details, the demands, the emotion, the preparation on both sides of the ball, fan reactions, all of it. There’s a big learning curve in this job and I’m drinking from a firehose, and I am loving every minute of it and can’t wait to get back to thinking about next week, and next month.’ Why is that so hard?
