Hb Dive

If we had any flavor in the run game we win by 21+ and they never stop us.

Hope it’s in our bag for later. (I know it’s not)

A jet sweep to Marion, Toney, or even Lofton would have broken for 50+ multiple times last night because they crashed and sold out right up the gut
10000000000%

We know it’s in the bag. We’ve seen it sporadically throughout Shannon’s tenure here. Hèll even pin a pull occasionally would be nice. If they want bring in another big at TE and mix it up without losing leverage. KEEP THEM HONEST.

Then sprinkle in some pa & move the pocket. It’s gonna get us beat ( praying I’m wrong and proven to be a fückin tard burger as we lift all the trophies & the confetti rains ) , but mane 2025 running Neanderthal Ball is not it long term.

Great Dub, and let’s get back in the lab and self scout for a change. Otherwise prepare thy Añus.

72% of the runs inside
75% of the runs are zone blocking
2023 is was 80% inside

This is what a Dawson & Mario/Mirabal run game will be

1. Dawson was heavy inside zone at Houston, mario heavy inside zone in oregon

2. Mario/Mirabal Love DUO, i do too lol

3. To me im fine with this but i have been saying for years we have to find a way to mesh it well with the pass game, the counter can’t only be tunnel screens lol

Only a 28% play action rate, thats WAY too low for a run game this basic. Our tendencies are too predictable, especially on 1st and 2nd down, even if we keep the same philosophy we should dress it up better.

It didn't last night when we needed it on a couple of late drives. Regardless, it doesn't make much sense to think it won't improve with more unpredictability.

We won the game and got yards when we needed too. Aside from Brown’s mistake in not following the hole It was designed to go into on that third down, which, if he would’ve followed the hole, he would’ve picked up the first down easily. Aside from that, it worked just fine. Brown will see that on film and fix that, that I can guarantee you.

I don’t really give a **** about run game variety. I’m not running student body right with 230lb running backs.

What I needed to see was a play action pass when Notre Dame just started selling out on every play.

Thank you for bring data to the conversation.

Can you elaborate on what we do in the run game? I saw atleast 5 different schemes without rewatching the game yet. The "dive" comment is old and false.

Every between the tackles run is the same to them. I still remember when they called every run out of the shotgun a “draw”.

This is where defending Dawson gets tough. The lack of creativity in our running game and even in the passing game at times is frustrating, and I have accepted it is unlikely to change. We are relying on talent rather than scheming to outsmart opponents, and I worry that will eventually catch up to us against the bigger programs. If Miami loses that game, the Mario narrative would have been at an all time high. I hope our staff adjusts but deep down I know we won’t.

We run between the tackles. Sure a guard may pull and there may be some variety in terms of the blocking scheme. But if you watch a team like Louisville or the losers up north, they hit you with a much more complex (and harder to defend) running attack. It doesn’t take Isaac newton to see that. But if I cared enough to pull the film, I’d do that for ya

One thing that is inarguable to me is not giving the edge defenders anything to to think about. They just crash down because they know Carson isn't gonna pull it and we aren't running any jet motion that they feel threatened by. Add to that our tight splits and they're on top of the play almost immediately, especially in short distances or when we're trying to burn the clock.
If Carson pulled a few of those he's running for 10 easily and could get down safely.

The key to this running game is that we avoid negative plays and convert short-yardage. We never put Beck in 2nd and 12 and Cam was the same way last year. It’s a QB-friendly run game.

And we still can move the ball (top 5 YPC last year and outrushed Notre Dame last night).
obviously the coaching staff wanted to simply have ZERO negative offensive plays moving backwards.

if not for the awful holding penalty on the O lineman it may have really paid off. that was a near fatal mistake in the second half.

Curious to see if Lyle gets more perimeter runs. We ran wide zone and some version of counter a few times to get to the edge against ND. I just dont think Fletcher/Brown are going to be those guys.
