Hayden Lowe..

Time out.
I can't stress this enough. What I suggested was based on literally nothing - a thought passed through my head and I wrote it into the internet. I said as much in that comment. I mention it again here because before we start attacking the coach, attack the porster (me) who wrote that unverified/unsubstantiated claim.

That said, I agree with what you wrote, aside from the support of Mario. As @AtlAtty wrote earlier, I don't think most D1 football coaches give a F if players are smoking weed, so long as it isn't interfering with the day to day.

No probably not, but Mario did do an interview a year or so ago where he did specifically say that the program does drug test the players.

I hear you.
I just wanted to make it abundantly clear that I made up that scenario without any sources, so I didn't feel like dragging Mario into the chat was fair based on what I had written.

I’m all for legalization, but I don’t agree with this take.

It’s about culture, rules, accountability, distractions. Whether it’s legal or not, that’s the standard and you can abide by it or go to a less serious program.

Plus I wouldn’t want a team full of pot heads but that’s just me.

Culture is about doing the hard work, grinding, and playing to go 1-0 each week. You can easily be someone who doesn't fit with the culture and not smoke and be someone who does smoke and completely fit with the culture.

If smoking doesn't affect his ability to do what is expected of him, then it shouldn't be a problem. The only thing that should be a problem is a player doing things that do distract from the culture, and that could be as something as benign as spending too much time playing video games or being on social media/internet.

My point is that if he's putting in the work like he's supposed to and he's still in the dog house for smoking, then I don't support that at all and it's a bit too draconian to be doing that.

It is hilarious how so many in here treat whatever is happening like State secrets. Everyone can allude and tippy toe around it but nobody can just actually say it.
Amen. If you want to open your mouth give us the full story instead of saying look at me I want to pretend I know something.

I’ll play.

He’s got serious issues. Not drugs, mental illness or violence, homesickness, attitude or legal trouble. Serious issues though. Read the tea leaves if you must
I'm not even going to put this in the Jeff Thomas category. Thomas had his fair share of issues but he at least showed his talent on the field despite how bad Miami's qbs and Richt & Enos play calling was.
