Hardly elite but the offense improved by a full yard per play from 2017, and the defense was more than a half yard per play improved.

That is typically the best way to evaluate whether the changed record was legitimate or merely a difference between winning and losing close games.

The Florida defense still wasn't much. Allowed more than 5 yards per play. But it was a big step up from the awful 2017 version.

I despise the Gators more than any team in any sport but that program has so many resources I don't pay attention to doom and gloom. They aren't going anywhere.

The same thing was said on this board after Jim McElwain's first season at UF. Even Muschamp had them looking decent year one.

In the state of Florida, recruits always like the new shiny coach for the first year or two.

Not always. Jimmy Johnson and Dennis Erickson had very mediocre first recruiting classes.

There are some built-in Miami recruiting disadvantages that have been dogging us for years...and I'm not sure what they are. I've seen this year"s story played over and over again. Not every year, but multiple times since the mid-80's.

I'm not gonna say the Gators are going to be elite, but we definitely missed our window to take command as the big dogs in the state with UF and FSU both going through coaching transitions last year.

Also, Dan Mullen is a better coach than Richt.

Funny, but sadly these are just words. Typed words at that. Which many of us, myself included, laughed at. However it’s a nervous laugh. A laugh that seeks comfort in us sticking together because in reality UiF and FSU look like they actually care about football while we have made no changes for the better and our DC left. The same people running the show the last 10 years are still here minus Donna and Blake (which isn’t saying much) and we continue to await the return of Miami Football.

True. In fact, 6 teams in their own conference have classes ranked higher than UF right now. Even FSU after their awful season is ranked higher. You'd have to do some amazing gameday coaching to become "elite" with the 7th best talent in your conference and behind your main rival.
