Has UCF passed us as a program?

:stephenahand: a national title, at UCF, do you realize how ridiculous that sounds? Do you have any idea what it takes to win a national title, good grief, and you're a MOD?!?!

I remember people saying the same thing when Howard Schnellenburger said that to the media in 1979. UCF is much further along now than UM was in 79.

Fair statement, but it also took some minor miracles for Miami to win the first one and it was a completely different landscape in CFB then than now.
When schools like Michigan, ND and Oregon can't win a title I have zero expectations that UCF ever could.

UCF is strategically located in a better place than the three schools you listed above. Oregon relies on socal recruiting. Michigan and ND need to rely on landing skill position players from southern states and linemen from all over the midwest. UCF has all the talent they need to win a title within a 150 mile radius of their brand new stadium.

if you think UM has had trouble recruiting and losing kids to out-of-state schools like Bama, Ohio State, and even Louisville, try recruiting at a school that's not in a big-5 conference, that has no history and no hope of ever getting to the playoffs.

I wouldn't say as a program yet, certainly their team now has surpassed us. But they don't have the national brand, whether it be with recruits or viewers that we do, no matter how much it's dwindling. At this pace though in 10 years id say yes.

No disagreement from me. Please note that I said "IF" UCF wins a title. Lots of variables but the trend line sez UCF is poised for some good luck.

Also they have the opportunity to grow rapidly. As an alum I can tell you their student body is HUGE! They have had great players come out of there also so it is not like having solid players is something new to them. Brandon Marshall, Duante Culpepper, Kevin Smith, Sims-Walker, Asante Samuel, and there are others I am sure I am missing.

They've had the same opportunity for a while now. USF, same thing.

Not disputing that they've had some solid players, but in comparison to UM, there is no comparison,

Right now if you are recruiting for UCF its a good time. 2 Conf titles in a row beat Baylor in a BCS bowl last year. Miami is down, UF is down, so now you may not get FSU kids but you can poach UF and Miami kids. We are winning we had a first round draft pick blah blah they are on the way up. Now if they do tumble it will be quick and ugly like USF but if they can keep it up they are a force.

UCF will need to build up its resume, get into a major conference when/if the next musical chairs game begins, and then grab a national title. Then we can start talking about UCF approaching Miami.

I think you may be discounting the recruiting vacuum that UM is providing for UCF. As golden spends more and more time out of state trying to convince kids who don't know the local vibe to come here, UCF will continue to scoop up the local talent.

Because Miami has done any of this recently also? Think about this, some of these Juniors for the 2016 class were in Diapers last time Miami was relevant they don't remember the past or care. They want to win and make it into the NFL, and that is something Miami isn't doing right now, this year we will put players into the leauge so that helps, but overall we are on the exact opposite trajectory of UCF.

I agree, but one coaching change and a year from now this could be a distant memory.

Let me know how many kids we lose head-to-head this year.

By my count, I see 8 current UM commits with UCF offers; only 1 UCF commit with a UM offer.

I'm not saying right now Im saying watch these kids start decomitting for the 16 class and we could lose some to ucf.

Being good and being relevant are two different things. UCF is no where near Miami in relevance. ESPN put 7 of Miami's games in prime time IIRC. That's being relevant, Miami was, has been and will continue to be a draw, which makes them relevant. UCF, not so much.
You put a scholarship from each school in front of a kid tomorrow and I'll wager 9 out of 10 chose Miami, regardless of the current circumstances.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that to happen, if I were you.

Look, the fact is that UM is still a marquee program, even after a decade of mediocrity. AND even with a 3-4 year drama of an NCAA investigation. We still get top-15 rated classes. Our games are still highly rated on TV. We're getting a second 30-for-30 about us. We still get national attention; everyone is eagerly awaiting our return to the top.

Sure, if we have another 5-10 years of mediocrity, that will change. Sure, if UCF joins a big 5 conference and does well for a few years, they can potentially challenge UM, UF, and FSU for recruits on a regular basis. Sure if both those things happen, UCF could then be a better program and a bigger draw than UM.

But as of right now, it's farcical to put the two in the same sentence, in terms of program viability and national visibility.

100%. They are spending the money to move forward as an elite football program in the next 10-15 years. Count on that.

So sometime between 2024 and 2029, UCF will be elite...seriously?

UCF is years ahead of us right now. Not sure if you're such a homer that you can't cope with little things, but it's pretty obvious.

National media, TV viewers, recruits, and anyone who isn't a doom-and-gloom UM fan says otherwise, chief. That's pretty obvious.
