Why are people saying he sucks as an OC if he’s never been an OC or called plays before?

He was named oc in the 23 season. He quietly got play calling duties taken away during the season. It’s the reason they hired Kelley in 24. It’s the only way they feel they can keep him or the only way they can raise his salary.
 
This is amazing news. That piece of **** will absolutely fail. I can't wait to witness the regression.

Day is awful as well

He was OC at BC where he was terrible and he called plays 2 years ago for OSU and he was also terrible

People think Day is offensive savant because he was riding Kevin Wilson’s coattails while they were Urbans coordinators

My point isn’t that Van Dyke was a great player, he’s not, he’s clearly flawed. It’s that he wasn’t some hopeless failure that no coach could help. I do have a feeling that injuries had something to do with it though. The three game stretch of Virginia, NC state and FSU we were particularly pathetic offensively and he threw half of his season total of interceptions in those three games. Then he miraculously played well again the last two games of the season.

Carson Beck had a tendency to throw interceptions in bunches last year. We’ll see how Dawson handles that if it happens again this year.

In my opinion TVDs biggest downfall was that he didnt appear to have that drive/fire to get better. how tf do u not have your WRs numbers as the starting QB? I mean guy looked checked out/shook on the sidelines most times after throwing picks lol.. at some point its up to you to get in that film room and study diff coverages/identify mistakes work with your WRs etc., you dont need a coach to always hold your hand thats what makes good QBs good. Coaches can teach you and show you all they want but sometimes you just have to "Get it", but we'll see if lashlee can salvage him, i could be wrong but i dont expect to hear much about TVD moving forward.

Would have been nice for that dissection against Georgia Tech.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good coordinator but I personally think Lashlee is/was a better play caller. Dawsons offense would disappear for stretches during games, and Dawson couldn’t really generate any offense without Ward doing #1 draft pick things. Not a lot of coordinators that I think would be an upgrade, but he’s not so elite that he is irreplaceable.
