Not really, he was British and was captured by Irish pirates at the age of 16, he’s celebrated by the Irish because he introduced Christianity to them. His birth name is Maewyn Succat.

He was supposedly Roman but apparently from England. We are dealing with legends here so not everything is certain. He father was supposedly a Deacon in England and his Grandfather a priest. At the time of Rome’s conquests in England, the people there were mostly Celtics. It is possible that Churchmen were Roman, or more widely, Italian. Angles, Saxons and other tribes eventually took over much of England. Patrick is the great Saint of Ireland but probably not Irish, who are Celtic. All that said, you might take care telling an Irishman that St Pattie is not Irish. They do love a good fight.
