Hard to believe the 89 title was 31 years ago and the 91NC was 29! G is one of UM’s great ambassadors, just a great guy and a great Hurricane.

True but there’s more to the story. He was recruited by Don James at Washington and had an offer from Wazzou. Recruiting trip was 87 OB (our 2nd NC) and Jim Kelly was on the sideline and he said who wouldn’t come here, it’s 80, great city and the team is good. G went home asked Geoff if he had to do it again, would he go to UM. Geoff said yes and the rest is history. BTW, The guy at Wazzou that Gino said no to was Dennis Erickson! After Jimmy left in 88, offensive guys started worrying about this new guy and one back stuff and Gino, the freshman, told them he had watched film on his visit to Pullman and when he got back to Cali and this offense would be perfect for the Canes with their speed and talent. I guess he knew what he was talking about. Coach E was ahead of his time.
