Guys we need to talk

U can’t compare an inanimate object to a person. I just posted an article from On3 from last yr interviewing anonymous blue chip recruits, & the overwhelming said going to a school that develops them & gets them to the next level is way more important than short term NIL opportunities.

This fan base has been absolutely obsessed with bags & using that as the reason other programs are getting the best players. Bruh, we haven’t done CHIT with the best players in 20 yrs. No one was crying bags when we were routinely pulling in top 5 classes. Of course we were b/c we flooded the NFL w/ top 3 round draft picks.

We’ve sucked bruh. If NIL was thee most important or bags, then Texas, TAMU, Michigan, ND would consistently have the top 5 classes every year. I can’t help this fan base, no matter how many times I provide tangible evidence proving the contrary. Every school gives perks, extra benefits, etc. If ur program can show u put bodies in the league, u will get top recruits. It’s not just the “highest bidder.”

Of course I can. I know a guy who is as dumb as a post. This may not be 100% accurate - as we haven't actually asked the post a few questions I know the dude doesn't have an answer to - and to compare the two may be a disservice to the post.

Failure to develop a 5-star does not exclude the value of a stable of 5-stars that COULD be developed. Of course coaching staff helps determine a finished product.

You don't build a $2,000 dollar knife if you start out with pot metal - and even the finest Damascus Steel can be screwed up beyond salvage if the wrong craftsman fails to carefully craft a piece of art while maintaining maximum function.

After Bear retired - they've only had two coaches worth a tinker's dam. Stallings and Saban. No use having much of a bag game if it's all going to be wasted - and I remember well beating Stallings - and losing to Stallings. Once Saban came onboard - bag men from Alabama were crawling out of the shadows wholesale. Now they had the raw materials - and the craftsmen to turn those raw materials into a machine.

UM has had a short sting of three great coaches - and one flyer with Butch - and of those four - it was Butch's players he evaluated and recruited that played well for JJ, for Erickson, and for Butch himself as well as handing over the turnkey team of the greatest college football team of all time to Clappy.

Can't do that today - as very few hidden talents and bags count. Bags are only topped by bags AND NIL.

U do realize Bama was in bed w/ bags well b4 Saban, don’t u? U do realize that Bama went on sanctions during The Shula era due to multiple recruiting violations of impermissible benefits, don’t u? U also realize that Ole Miss has been a notorious sanctioned school for yrs due to academic & impermissible benefits don’t u? U think LSU stopped dropping bags when Saban left?

I’m not giving a pontification, or a theory, I’m telling u from the multiple blue chip kids I’ve been around, including 2 family members that bags, $$ is enticing, but they are choosing programs w/ the most success, development, best chances to get to the next level & facilities. I think many of u truly underestimate the education & thought processes of these young men.

U’re entitled to ur opinion, and I’m not going to try to change ur mind, but simply paying for players ain’t going to work, especially if let’s say Miami is offering me $800k, and Bama is offering $500k. Which school am I going to as of 04/24/23? That $500k, based upon 15 yrs of data says it will & can easily become $25m in the next 3 yrs, while that $800k may become $2m IF I’m lucky to get drafted in the 4th round. Which one is the better long term investment?

Yes, I live in NW Florida and this is Alabama/FSU/Auburn country - except for our new Freshman QB from right down the road in Milton.

I know so many former Bama/Auburn players that took bags - and it's been going on since Bear Bryant - to my personal knowledge. Their bag system is ingrained in their very well coordinated system - and has been polished and honed for many decades. I think the oldest QB bought - and he came from a very wealthy family who didn't need anything - got his bags and a new Corvette in around 1969-1970 that I'm PERSONALLY aware of. He was a QB.

If you're trying to convince me that bags don't work - that's not going to happen.

The bulk - not every single one every single time - the BULK always has its price. You willing to pony up - you can buy players, players families, judges, US Congressmen, US Senators - everyone has their own price.

$500K spread over four years is only $125,000 a year. Peanuts for a top-top-top player - and you're only going to need about five or six five stars per year to load up your roster. Meaning - even $800K per year over four years is only $200,000 per year.

You gotta play the percentages - six 5-stars at $250K PER YEAR - some goes to the player - some to the family - and that total per year may cost some businessman or small team of businessmen collectively $400,000 per year - and if there's four of them, that's only $100K per year apiece.

Five or six teams of boosters concentrating on getting five or six 5-stars - each team member contributing $100K each - it happens all the time.

Now - if you're not led by dumbazzes for a couple decades like UM has been - and your decades of stacking players is resulting in very winning programs - that's a bonus.

But it's unusual to see anyone matching SEC first rate bag men year after year after year and NOT be winning big time.

You pay - you get to play. In the finals.

Momma gets a house and a job - BIG draw. Single Moms with a 5-star? It's just too easy. A dossier on each top personnel group will enable easy navigation to find out which buttons to push.

How many times has Saban flew in - and walked away with South Florida players who NORMALLY might have wanted to stay home - but suddenly bolted?

The bag game has been refined to a highly productive, very efficient mechanism. And it pays off.

Cash Moore was dropping bags to Auburn when I lived in the Panhandle.
