I haven't been following recruiting like I use to, but do you think we'll ever get back to the glory days with the NIL deals without good coaching.

I'm betting that Dabo and Saban will never win a chip again

Oh you being funny now, pretending to suggest Bama and Clempson weren't buying players in the "pre-NIL" days.

Sheneneh say:

Siiiiiiigh;

Transfer portal started in 2019 (we we’re literally the 1st one to take advantage of this)

NIL began July 2021 (we’ve been the face of this movement)

Guess what has happened since both of those new tools have opened to help “level” the playing field.

The only way to level the playing field is to find out how much Bama is paying out for each player. Same-same Georgia, Ohio State, USC, Texas, ATM, Tennessee, etc. The top ten teams.

Then - everyone knows how short or close they actually are to playing on a level field.

No; the way u level out the playing field is winning.

Why don’t we have both?!

There are salary caps in the professional ranks. I'd imagine them implementing something similar - assuming they want to level the playing field.

I won't hold my breath, because I don't think the NCAA gives a **** about parity.
Eventually there might be political issues when college athletes start to heavily outearn comparable professionals.

This is pretty much an auction.

You don't win the best pieces unless you have the highest bid.

That guy that just bought a '67 428 Shelby Mustang, a '67 427/435 horse Vette, and a '70 Challenger with a 426 Hemi - will go faster - quicker - and more consistently than the other guy with a '73 Chevy Vega with a four-banger, and a '71 Ford Pinto with a 2.0 washing machine motor, and his third car is a '72 AMC Gremlin with a 199 cu/in 128hp as his stable in his collection.

There's a reason one pays a premium.

U can’t compare an inanimate object to a person. I just posted an article from On3 from last yr interviewing anonymous blue chip recruits, & the overwhelming said going to a school that develops them & gets them to the next level is way more important than short term NIL opportunities.

This fan base has been absolutely obsessed with bags & using that as the reason other programs are getting the best players. Bruh, we haven’t done CHIT with the best players in 20 yrs. No one was crying bags when we were routinely pulling in top 5 classes. Of course we were b/c we flooded the NFL w/ top 3 round draft picks.

We’ve sucked bruh. If NIL was thee most important or bags, then Texas, TAMU, Michigan, ND would consistently have the top 5 classes every year. I can’t help this fan base, no matter how many times I provide tangible evidence proving the contrary. Every school gives perks, extra benefits, etc. If ur program can show u put bodies in the league, u will get top recruits. It’s not just the “highest bidder.”

I completely agree.

I can see a lot of things changing as a result of this fiasco.
The sheer fact that schools are and will be devoting so much of what may be scant resources to athletic centers that are increasingly palaces will likely cause tension on campus.

Amongst a lot of other things. I completely agree.

It hasn't started well, nor will it end that way.

I can imagine a possible future where protesting student populations lean on their school administrators to cease NCAA sports, and any athletic competition in the future is purely intramural, not tied to “player only” facilities or college payment of athletes.

TrumpyCane asks you guy…

You don’t think Mario knows how much Saban dropping for these players? He only spent like 3 years with him

Same with Rad and Dabo
Actually, it might be a mystery. Mario was there pre-NIL, so aside from contacts behind the scenes he may have no ide what Alabama can or cannot offer in an NIL world. In bags however, yes. Probably $300Kish.
