U can’t compare an inanimate object to a person. I just posted an article from On3 from last yr interviewing anonymous blue chip recruits, & the overwhelming said going to a school that develops them & gets them to the next level is way more important than short term NIL opportunities.
This fan base has been absolutely obsessed with bags & using that as the reason other programs are getting the best players. Bruh, we haven’t done CHIT with the best players in 20 yrs. No one was crying bags when we were routinely pulling in top 5 classes. Of course we were b/c we flooded the NFL w/ top 3 round draft picks.
We’ve sucked bruh. If NIL was thee most important or bags, then Texas, TAMU, Michigan, ND would consistently have the top 5 classes every year. I can’t help this fan base, no matter how many times I provide tangible evidence proving the contrary. Every school gives perks, extra benefits, etc. If ur program can show u put bodies in the league, u will get top recruits. It’s not just the “highest bidder.”
Of course I can. I know a guy who is as dumb as a post. This may not be 100% accurate - as we haven't actually asked the post a few questions I know the dude doesn't have an answer to - and to compare the two may be a disservice to the post.
Failure to develop a 5-star does not exclude the value of a stable of 5-stars that COULD be developed. Of course coaching staff helps determine a finished product.
You don't build a $2,000 dollar knife if you start out with pot metal - and even the finest Damascus Steel can be screwed up beyond salvage if the wrong craftsman fails to carefully craft a piece of art while maintaining maximum function.
After Bear retired - they've only had two coaches worth a tinker's dam. Stallings and Saban. No use having much of a bag game if it's all going to be wasted - and I remember well beating Stallings - and losing to Stallings. Once Saban came onboard - bag men from Alabama were crawling out of the shadows wholesale. Now they had the raw materials - and the craftsmen to turn those raw materials into a machine.
UM has had a short sting of three great coaches - and one flyer with Butch - and of those four - it was Butch's players he evaluated and recruited that played well for JJ, for Erickson, and for Butch himself as well as handing over the turnkey team of the greatest college football team of all time to Clappy.
Can't do that today - as very few hidden talents and bags count. Bags are only topped by bags AND NIL.
