Gus Felder

... 3. lol at going to Iceland to get powerlifters / strongman athletes. I also see a lot of requests to get someone who was a Navy SEAL to lead the S&C program. You guys are actually mentally disabled. We want to make better football players, not train them to lift anvils and cars. "Innovative" in the S&C sense doesn't mean what you think it means. I'd much rather have someone who has an emphasis on injury prevention and speed development like Jim Radcliffe over at Oregon, but I digress...

You have ZERO idea what you are talking about.

Actually, less than zero.

And Magnus and Navy SEALs aren't on cutting edge of sport science?

Stop talking, go to your room, and think about what you have done. Think deep thoughts on your delusions.

Each their own.

Cochran doesn't even make a mil, we could absolutely bring in someone he's been working with.
We definitely can there more strength coaches then jobs. We could easily get someone from clemson or bama staff that will love to do there own thing at the U.

Do what Bama is doing to get the kind of push they have on their OL.

That’s the Standard.

I'm not sure if Felder uses the same philosophies John Thomas used at Penn State (HIIT Training), but that stuff didn't work then, which is why he was fired. Penn State S&C has gotten MUCH better since he left. Thomas is now on staff here and Felder has mentioned learning from him in some of his interviews so it concerns me that he still uses those same techniques.

As for what i see on the field....the LBs look slower now than as freshmen. Homer looked much slower this year. Deejay got way too big. Our Olinemen need their bodies to be re-shaped and get stronger. Do i think this S&C staff is better than Swasey? Absolutely. But i think it has a way to go to be on the level of other top programs and i really think we need a dedicated speed coach on staff.
Exactly!! My close friend played DT at PSU when Felder was there on S&C staff then was drafted by Seahawks said Felder will not get us “back”. Credits his replacement at PSU to getting him to the level to be drafted. I trust him. So Felder needs to gtfo!

My fear as well.

Exxxxxactly.

I don’t think I have a problem w Manny per say, but I feel he’ll be keeping same folks and that’s a problem. These kids don’t respect not one coach. Maybe they respect Manny, but it’s hard to fire ppl u came up w.

No idea how good Felder is, but do agree that the philosophy he and Thomas subscribe too is different than those from the Moffitt/Hatch/Cochran tree.

Also, just b/c someone is on 'Bama's staff does not make them a good head SC coach. For example, Richt had a Cochran protege at UGA (rumor was he was forced to hire him) who was not good--Richtd didn't bring him to UM and Kirby fired him day 1.

If we were looking (who knows), Viloria does check a lot of boxes and would assume he'd be available. Not sure why he did not go with Jimbo to TAMU though.
TAMU hired OU’s guy and gave him a 200k raise. He is a legend in his own regard and I think the hire was more to send a message in the region then a statement on Vic’s results.

Tommy Moffitt's philosophy. Do we need to go back to the Hatch approach?

http://www.gaylehatch.com/HatchingAChampion.htm

Maybe Gus' philosophy is the wrong one. What do Bama and Clemson do?
Cochran at bama is a hatch guy.

Clemson’s guy comes from a powerlifting background. For football I think the hatch system is better, but you need the squat and deadlift to build strength. The clean aka the king of the lifts is for power. Power can be increased up to a genetic limit and the hatch system focuses on these explosive lifts over the power lifting focus on squat and Dead lift.

Don't you think the smarter strength coaches, even if they come from a particular philosophy, incorporate some other modalities, e.g., would a Hatch guy incorporate some powerlifting techniques to build strength?

I do think Manny should have observed Alabama's game to see how far we have to go.

This is not new. Bama beat us up physically in that '93 Sugar Bowl. Although people here want to believe we should have beaten OSU in 2003 Fiesta Bowl, fact is, they outhit and overpowered us most of the game.

I also had a feeling LSU would the same this year. Despite the fact some on here say we could have won had we done this, or done that, LSU was much superior physically. I knew it would be that way.

I really think Manny needs to look very carefully at how we're developing players physically. That means S&C.

I also wonder, when people complain about lack of push on OL, if we're just not getting the kind of kids we need.

That does not necessarily mean just high 4-star and 5-star kids. Look at Wisconsin's OL.

Maybe they're not there in south Florida. I don't know.
