If we had a 3 point specialist, we would be so good. I just don't get why Coach L doesn't focus on this in recruiting.
Miami has had an awful shooting slump of late, but they've shot relatively well throughout the season. Wong, McGusty and Moore have all been pretty solid from deep, Sam has been a nice addition. Miami is 80th nationally in 3P%, that's not bad considering that there are 350 schools listed.

Miami's issue hasn't been hitting from deep for most of the season, that said, as the season wears on, I think Miami's lack of depth will continue to affect what gets made, because your legs are the first thing to go as you get tired.

Related to the tired legs, Canes are usually notoriously disciplined for not aggressively seeking offensive rebounds on perimeter shots because Coach L wants them to get back ASAP. (...although sometimes Sam and others seem frozen just watching it arc...) Some other teams do this too, but when you Live-and-Die by the 3, and they don't drop, it's disaster...

....neither team was great from 3 tonight, but I noticed the Canes were a bit more aggressive near the glass after such shots. I guess Coach L maybe said: Heck, if you can hustle back, and not get pooped-cramps, have a Go... because they seemed (to me) to be hanging back a bit more tonight. In fact, our offensive rebounds were 9 to 7... as much a part of this win as anything, I think. Related to this, Sam seemed more on the hustle too, tonight.

80th nationally is atrocious. We should be top 25 every year if we want a true chance at the tourney.

No it’s pretty good. Remember that it’s all relative to competition. Lower tier teams still make threes because they have good shooters who play against less athletic defenders. So top 80 I top 25% and it’s not like all the P5 schools are grouped at the top of 3PT%.

What? Please tell me you are joking. Being 80th nationally puts you in the top 25% or so nationally. That's more than enough to win the bulk of your games and find your way into the dance. If Miami has to be in the top 7% in this stat to have a chance at the tournament(As you are suggesting), then odds are, Miami will never get there.

Agree. Hope Sam can replicate last night. Or, come close to it. Too often, he'll follow a top-flight shooting game with a weak one.

I love Sam and was happy to see him hit a bunch of 3s, it seems like he has been passing up those shots lately. Would love to see him hit more of those backdoor cuts too, he killed Duke with those.
