Great write up on new Director of Sports Science

Wow. Our budget must be tremendous. A Director of Sports Science is definitely something "extra" that msot schools won't have. And personally I'd rather see extras like this rather than indoor slides. Not only does this make the athlete better, but the more serious athlete (the ones every school is hoping to recruit) will appreciate this type of investment more than a slide.
Investment in people. First. Second. Third. Can't count how many times so many people on this board have argued this during the "facilities" debates. Yes, upgrade facilities, too, if possible. But, human development. Even if they pay this guy 400k, the benefit is far beyond the cost.

It begs the question, what exactly did we do with all that data coming from those monitors that we used even with Manny coached teams? Did Feeley just dump all of it into a spreadsheet and see who was running the fastest?
I'm gonna defend Feeley here. None of us know what went on there but I can guarantee you he had the same aspirations for the department that Renaghan does, with a similar educational background.

He likely wasn't given any sort of budget for what he wanted, including additional coaches, and/or Manny meddled in it too much to get any meaningful, useful data out of it. Manny already had his favorites anyway, it's not like he was making personnel adjustments based on data.

You may be right and I was being facetious about dumping it into a spreadsheet and sorting the speed. I'm sure they did do something with the data - I'm just curious how it differs this time.

I will reiterate what I've been saying for years now though: the largest contributing factor to performance increases we see on the field will be due to recruiting better athletes. This is something every top coach understands, and Cristobal is one of them: you need 4 and 5-star athletes to win.

I'm happy to see the investment into the S&C program as well, but Feeley nor Feld can turn a 3-star into a 5-star. But starting with monster athletes are when these types of programs really contribute to wins.

Good stuff. Data and analytics matter.

Those GPS systems are cool. You have your athletes all get their HRmax, then you have various conditioning drills where you want everyone to be within a certain heart rate range, say between 85-100%, with everyone connected to a central monitor that I'm sure the coaches can see. Then you carry out the session.

It's pretty easy to tell who is actually working and who is bull****ting. You can literally see who isn't working the way that they should, you might be able to fool a coach but you can't fool the computer. :)
Ok cool, but when are we going to get Dr. Ferrari?

@Rellyrell ....Absolute mind boggling. If people knew the true stories (not the BS people like to spew) they'd be stunned. UMs administration should have been ashamed of themselves. Nit picked Butch to no end.
Yea it was a big part of the reason he left. Got tired of fighting tooth and nail for basic necessities. They were finally upgrading some facilities from the stone age when he left.

Golden too.. No defense because he was an awful fit here but he was up against it and nearly bolted early.
Not close what Golden had to deal with compared to Butch. Not in the same Hemisphere....Golden was somewhat liked by the administration. Butch was vilified. Butch only had a few people on his side. Stu Miller, (his dad Leonard), Richard Fain and Paul Dimare were the ONLY ones. Everyone still thinks that Paul Dee had Butch's back, which is complete BS....

This is fantastic.

Now we have some verifiable scientific evidence that can prove whether Froggy Shipman was the fastest guy ever on Greentree, instead of having to rely on @SWFLHurricane 's memories...

No proof needed. There's absolutely no question about Froggy's speed. He left the Fastest of the Fast in a wake....from Kevin Williams, to Santana.

It's 2022, Sports Science is cancelled. Sports Beliefs are the new wave.

Name sounds familiar. DB at Florida back in the 80's?

I agree w/ u, to a point, but let’s not act like Miami have been recruiting at a Bowling Green level.

There’s this narrative that’s been floating around that it’s been poor little Miami & the lack of caliber of athletes we’ve had. That’s simply untrue. The fact is, and I’ll say it time & time again, but the entire f’ing infrastructure has been in disarray from top to bottom, which included our S&C w/ these previous regimes.

I’ll personally tell u I wasn’t a fan of the Feeley hire, simply b/c his resume didn’t give me the confidence. In CFB P5 standards, u must hire of the sort. Idgaf if every recruit in that locker room is a 5 star; if u have a G5 mentality from top to bottom, ur team will not perform.

Let’s look at Miami’s 2021 roster who played a significant amount of snaps:
-Offense:
QB:
King (4 star - T) then TVD (4 star)

RB:
Harris (4 star)
Chaney (4 star)
Rooster (4 star)

OL:
Nelson (3 star)
Scaife (4 star)
Donaldson (4 star)
Gaynor (3 star) then Clark (3 star)
Rivers (4 star) then Oluwaseun (3 star)

WR:
Rambo (4 star)
Harley (4 star)
Pope (4 star)
Wiggins (3 star)

TE:
Mallory (4 star)

75% of the O was 4*+ who played significant snaps. If I throw in X at the WR position, that’ll drop it to 70%, which is still a high clip

Defense:
DL:
McCloud (4 star)
Silvera (4 star)
Ford (3 star)
JHH (3 star)
Harvey (4 star)
Johnson (3 star)
Miller (3 star)
Taylor (5 star)
Williams (4 star)

LB:
Steed (3 star)
Flagg (3 star)
Jennings (3 star)
Smith (4 star)

Striker:
GB3 (4 star)
Carter (3 star)

CB:
Stevenson (4 star)
Ivey (4 star)
Couch (4 star)

S:
Hall (4 star)
Bolden (4 star)
Kinchens (4 star)
Williams (5 star)

64% of the Def was 4*+ who played significant snaps.

So we’re talking roughly about 67-70% of the guys who played the most snaps being 4*+ from last yr alone, yet we saw guys getting easily tripped up, defenders dragged for an extra 3-5 yrds, guys bouncing off of players tackling, receivers unable to get off of jams, etc.

So yes, having the caliber of athletes is important, but u MUST have an up to date solid S&C program that caters to proper conditioning, football focused weight training, & nutritional regimen

Was the Administration afraid of winning? I’ve always thought they believed this would bring back the ‘bad press’ Miami received in the 80s and early 90s…up to the Pell Grant scandal.

Sensitive, easily triggered trolls…

Nobody wanted the UM job after Erickson ran outta Hecht.....Butch was never a HC in any capacity in his life, prior to him taking the UM job. As much as the majority of UMs administration disliked Butch....he disliked them even more.
