Ahh wuddayaknow...
The **** that I've been saying on here for the past couple years has now been echoed publicly by fellow local high school coaches and everybody wants to listen. SMH
Now that we freakin' suck on the field there's less Goldenites running around that are willing to fight this point to the death. I've gotten into huge arguments/debates on this board about several issues that this staff presented from day one and now they're coming to the light.
1. Ignoring local studs who produce in South Florida in favor of less heralded kids from out of area.
2. Schemes not being tailored to South Florida athletes. (i.e. power offense and 3-4 two-gap defense)
3. Not recruiting kids who have offers from top tier programs who would kick Miami's ***. (or have)
***** facilities and home crowds. Does it help? Sure, but if you handle our issues with RECRUITING and SCHEME the kids will come.
Run an offense/defense that local kids can come and thrive in. You got allllllll these talented WR's in your backyard. If you ain't putting four of them on the field every down then you're cheating yourself. And I said yearrrrrs ago that Miami would have trouble finding D-linemen from South Florida who are willing (or able) to play a read-and-react 3-4 defense.
For example: I have nothing against Berrios but you don't think you're offending local coaches/prospects when you fly to Carolina to sign a slot WR when you have a plethora of small jitterbug WR's down here with even more explosiveness and ability?
There's prospects down here who have offers from programs that are held in much higher regard than Miami yet we're not even recruiting them. That makes some of us local high school guys scratch our heads and it causes some of the kids to resent Miami. Imagine being a kid that grew up liking Miami but they're not recruiting you, meanwhile Oklahoma, Ole Miss, TCU, Texas A&M, South Carolina, UCLA, LSU, etc... are all recruiting you. It's like a slap in the face.
