Great interview with Coach Likens

Imagine thinking a team that averaged 236 YPG rushing (11th in the country) and 5.75 YPC (6th in the country) has a pool Offensive Line LMAOOOOOOOO.

Oh, they only had 35 rushing TDs too. 3rd best number in America.

And that's even with the 210 yards lost on sacks, which was 10th worst in the entire country.

Yes, they gave up a lot of sacks. It happens when you run the 6th most plays in the country and have a young QB who pilots a vertical passing attack. But, for the love of Christ, a team who has TWO backs with over 150 carries and they both are over 7 yards a carry is doing pretty well up front.

Searles is fine. But, as always, it's scheme and players. You paired him here with Mark Richt. To put him in the same breath as an OC in this day and age with Phil Longo is criminal.

A good offensive system, star quarterback and quality skill talent will definitely make an offensive line look a lot better but I’m more upset about Searles’ recruiting and the roster full of duds he left us than his actual coaching. The line wasn’t great when he was coaching leftover Golden players but it was serviceable. It wasn’t until we started having to rely on players he brought in that it fell off a cliff. Zion is the only guy he recruited that seems to have real potential. Everyone else he brought in was a Jag at best and total waste of a scholarship at worst.

We weren’t allowed due to rules with University in conducting this interview! Have to play by the rules in order to get more coaches in the future on hopefully!

Agreed.
 
When you go back and watch Harley's catch to get them out of 2nd and 18 from inside the 10 and then the game winner against NC State, Likens is the first coach to meet him on the sideline after the TD. Guy grabs his shoulder pads and shakes him like a proud father as Harley looks emotional. Ppl should go back and watch it. It's a feel good moment.
 
I still have many Manny doubts. But the guy needs a wheelbarrow to carry his balls after firing Enos and his entire staff, then replacing them with Lashlee, Likens, Justice, Field and Hickson.

I love these guys and really hope they'll stay as a unit for another few years. Miami needs to pay up to keep them. after this season. They better not get cheap.

UNC OLine is still trash. Gave up 37 sacks in 2019, and 34 sacks in 2020. 35.5 sacks per year since he's been there. The year before Searles got there, they gave up 10 sacks (not a typo), and the year before that, 30.

****, even under Mark Richt, the OL under Searles gave up 25, 29, and 27 sacks. 27 sacks per year.

If you want to point at the rushing yards they had against us, go back and watch the game. Their OL didn't dominate that game, our DLine/LB's ran themselves out of position in nearly every single big play. That was a HUGE anomaly of a rushing game they had...that's why it broke records.

Your comment about LBs and Dline continuing to simply out run their positions run lane assignments really makes me wonder if some where on the take.

that performance was down right awful and reeked of either knowing our signals of when we got “reckless” with called blitzes or simply players laying down

I had the feeling before, and that interview reinforced it, that this offensive staff wants to cut some legitimate teeth here before any of them move on. I'm sure they, especially Lashlee, want to see how much they can accomplish with the new group of promising young QB's that are going to be here in the next several years. If Jacqurri Brown stays committed, we'll have a QB at UM like we've never had before. Who wouldn't be excited to see him in this kind of offense? If Lashlee bolts ( and our history is certainly one of coaching instability ) it'll be in one of two cases: 1. We get over the Clemson hump or make a deep run into the expanded 2024 playoffs, and he's offered a HC gig or 2. we try for years and never make it, and an offer for the same OC gig somewhere else for more money is enough to lure him away. While he's here, I think we'll keep a good core of the staff coming back each season.

We had higher rated guys out of HS. They have better coaches develop the low rated guys they recruited
