Great article on season thus far/Golden

Vishnu is a slobbering idiot (that graph of margin of loss is dumb dumb dumb), but I agree with a lot of this particular article. As usual, he latched onto a stupid argument with the "Oh no! What will we do when these guys leave!". Every team has these problems. Next man up. If the next "men" up suck, then AG gets fired. If they don't suck, and we're still losing games, then he gets fired. If they don't suck, and we finally start winning some games against good teams, he won't get fired (yet). Vishnu's over-analyzing of everything is retarded, but par for the course with him.

You forgot to include the link to the article where you present your counter argument.

This article strikes the correct balance between the mopes and the slurpers. The key paragraph is this:

When you look at Al Golden’s tenure, the scandal looms large. It must. It landed on him like a ton of bricks. It wasn’t his fault. Without the scandal, he should be fired right now. There would be no reason to keep him around. In fact, his record is almost identical to Randy Shannon’s, who was justifiably fired. Golden does deserve consideration for the scandal. But that consideration is why he will likely be keeping his job. When that lapses into effusive praise like this, it becomes comical. You cannot describe the last four years as “great” with a straight face. Perhaps Golden survived the scandal, and now he can turn the corner. That’s our hope. But to pretend like this team hasn’t been playing sub-par football for a majority of his tenure serves no purpose.

My issue w/ the previous two years was that I understand why the defense was bad, but should not have been THAT bad. My issue this year is that it is clear using both the eye test and statistics (both traditional and advanced) that this is an improved football team. However, we have four losses, when the stats suggest this should be a 2-3 loss team. Some of that has to fall on the coaches.

Vish is right: Without the scandal, Golden would be fired right now. However, the scandal happened and it did make things more difficult. That is the unbiased truth. This staff deserves an extra season than would normally be afforded to them. Many of you disagree, as evidenced by banners flying before the 4th season was even finished (which was idiotic, period). However, I will absolutely join the group that calls for Al's firing if 2015 brings us the same results as 2014.

Flying the banners was in response to losing over the past four years to teams we should not have lost to. We have out recruited every team we have lost to over the past four years except for Florida State.

The cloud is irrelevant when discussing our losses to teams that we have out recruited.

It's ******* irrelevant.

Time is more relevant than losses. When you hire a coach, you give them four years. Randy got four. Muschamp got four. The cloud is worth an extra year, especially if we finish the year with 2 wins and a bowl win. If Al has another similar season to the last two seasons, he deserves to be fired. He does not deserve to be fired at this moment.

Why is the cloud worth an extra year? Your spurious argument would only be valid if we had been beating all the teams that we have out recruited. But we haven't been. EVERY SINGLE LOSS THIS SEASON WAS TO TEAMS THAT WE OUT RECRUITED WHILE THE "CLOUD" WAS IN EFFECT. Except for obviously FSU.

Ho Lee ***.

We out recruit every team we lose to besides FSU and those losses don't matter? Time is more relevant? Amazing there are people out there with this kind of thinking.

Every loss over the past four years actually. (Except for FSU)

His point about notre dame is the same I've been making. People wanna look to this fsu game and playing them close as to some monumental accomplishment but the reality is it isn't.
