Blake hired Manny because he expected a quick fix. He thought Manny would keep the defense humming, make some obvious changes to the offense, and the team would be back to double-digit wins by 2019.
This was wrong for two reasons. The first is that Manny blew the Enos hire. The second is that there was a drop off from Richt to Manny as head coach. Richt had much more experience and it showed.
Two decisions make this clear. The first was bringing back Jeff Thomas after Richt kicked him out. The second was starting Jarren Williams after Richt buried him. We were all happy with Manny's decisions at the time because of the talent. But Richt was right all along. You can't reward bad behavior for short-term benefit. There is a reason Richt won so many games. He knows team psychology. Manny has not shown that.
Blake knows he messed up. Key boosters were incensed when Manny called this a rebuild because they know what Manny and Blake sold them. We (myself included) want change now but coaches don't get fired in Year One barring scandal. So Blake is talking about "giving Manny all the resources he needs." That is code for, "Fire everybody who is a problem, I'll give you money to hire the right guys, and if we don't turn it around you are gone."
I still see Manny on the Taggart plan. Gone by Year Two. And if that happens, Blake will be on the hot seat because he broke away from the process to hire a flop.

Unless he hires a complete unknown grad assistant, truth is, Diaz will never be the alpha in the locker room. Does anyone think enos was a cancer in the alabama locker room. He was second to locksley and saban would have fired his *** in a matter of seconds if enos tried to pull the “smartest guy in the room” ****. Therein is the problem, we have a head coach that doesn’t garner respect. It’s why he surrounds himself with guys like baker, Banda and patke, they won’t question his authority.
This wasn’t solely a dan enos problem, this is a manny Diaz not commanding respect problem.
