Graham Harell to USC

SC 'should' shine with that scheme. Who really cares about defense in the Wac 12? Washington and ???

I think he was holding out for another head coaching offer that never came.

Kind of thinking, in retrospect, that he was never a real option. Whole OC search, coupled with the story of Enos leaving under the cloak of darkness sounds like everything is a misdirection to get this guy.

I think he’ll adapt some because of USC’s consistently good to great RBs.
Think it’s the best OC hire so far of the off season, on paper. We’ll see how it pans out. Although I’m a fan of Penos too
What is your opinion on Briles?

Obviously hate to admit it because FSU, but also one of the best OC hires up there with Yost to T-Tech, Enos to Miami, and Harrell to USC. Problem with FSU is I don't see a QB who's ready to run that Briles offense; Plumlee from Georgia who we were after a few weeks back would be scary at FSU.

Luckily I think Plumlee will head to Ole Miss because he'd give us some headaches in 3 years once developed.

I also think Briles was a great hire for FSU which really ****ed me off at the time because my list of personal favorites for OC were Briles, Yost, and Harrell and this was before Richt stepped down. I had completely overlooked Enos. Once I began to study his style and familiarized myself with his coaching philosophy I came away very impressed. I was particularly impressed by his ability to exploit the weak spots in opposing defenses by using motion and different formations in order to isolate the best matchups.

I realize that many will say that this is the gist of what offensive coordinators do. The difference is that Enos does it incredibly well and also people would be surprised how many coordinators are so arrogant that they think they never have to change or adapt and their system will win out in the end. That or their minds are stunted by dogmatically clinging to outdated cliches and modes of thought. A great example would be a coach or coordinator preparing for a defense that is extremely stout against the run yet has a porous secondary. They come out trying to run the football to no avail then when questioned about it they say that you have to establish the running game. Apparently this is somewhere in the coaching manual.

An intelligent coordinator will come out looking to exploit the opponents weakness no matter what it is. He will throw the ball 60 times in a row if the opponent cannot stop it. Conversely he will run the ball 40 times in a row if the defense is powerless to stop it. The concept of balance has been grossly misrepresented in football with many interpreting this to mean that in order to be most effective, an offense should have a 50/50 run/pass ratio or as close to 50/50 as possible. Thankfully that outdated mode of thought has been completely exposed for all of it's illogical, narrow minded stupidity. Balance on offense is when a team has the ability to run or pass more or less equally well and call either depending on opponent, game situation, down, distance, time left, score etc ......Enos seems to understand this quite well.

Helton bought himself more time because If he'd have promoted one of his assistant or (worse) stayed as playcaller I don't think he would have survived week 1

He won't be USC HC in 2020 anyway

That right there is why the Patriots Dynasty is the greatest display of football ever (I'm a Dolphins fan, so don't paint me as some crazy homer).

It does feel like Enos was the #1 choice right from the beginning with the way it all played out.

Agree.

The mention of the timing issue with the announcement seems to be the biggest flag confirming that.

And, in retrospect, it makes sense that Manny would hire someone that gave him trouble without having all-world talent at every position.
