Hate to answer my own question, but Butch was not a huge fan of Gore. Coker loved him and recruited him hard once Davis left. He would not have been a Cane if Davis was the coach. Coker closed hard on the greatest class in the history of CFB.

Butch actually didn't recruit Gore that hard because of his first knee injury at CGH. Larry Coker was the one who truly wanted and offered him. For all u young bucks out there...
