You beat me to it haha. Coker for once actually knew what he was doing during that time. Gore was gonna end up at Ole Miss

Yeah that's how I remember it.
Also Andre Johnson was a big time recruit. Not like Butch found him out nowhere.
I'm as big a fan of Butch as anyone but no need to make stuff up.
 
Man you guys are funny, Butch recruited gore from day one, he was the best rb in the state. Gore was LD in high school and actually did not qualify to get in. He was given the special pass

He was pegged to go to Ole Miss with his cousin Roscoe Parrish about a week or two before signing day. When roscoe got offered, both of them committed.

We were recruiting other RBs. I think Lydell Ross (2X all-state) was one of them.

I remember an Ole Miss fan coming on Grassy saying such positive things about him even after he flipped. I was very impressed with the class he showed. Doubt that would ever happen now.

I remember a story of Mcgahee and Portis giving Gore a hard time in the UM weightroom when Gore got drafted. They were busting his balls about not having done anything in the league yet and how their careers were better. I guess that motivated Gore and look where he is today compared to those legends. Gore, in my opinion, is a HOF'er.

That was Coker's shining moment as a recruiter. He also brought in Roscoe and got Winslow late.

What I heard is butch wasn't recruiting Parrish and him and gore were package deals. Frank flipped on signing day cause of Larry. Also heard sean Taylor almost went to georgia tech cause butch wanted him at LB but I'm not 100% sure on that one.

Class, hard worker, never makes excuses, overcame ACL surgery in both knees, national champ, pro-bowler, most yds & tds for any 49er back

Gore is the best all around back in the league. I hope he gets another crack at a ring.
 
I'd like to see some of Gore's UM highlights when he was a freshman. I never saw him at his best. I heard about some performances in mop-up time. ABC usually switched to another game because it was in the bag. What I saw of him in his later years did not impress me that much. He was coming off multiple knee injuries and too heavy. I've hardly seen him in the NFL because I don't watch pro football anymore. From what I read, he returned to his true form after leaving UM and getting back in condition
