Golden vs Shannon team

As bad as Golden is, he has not lost at home to USF with their backup quarterback.
No but every qb that has played us under AG has had career days.Jag qbs career passing games>USF

Nah, losing is worse. I would rather beat Wake Forest while their QB throws for 600 yards than lose to an atrocious USF team.

I don't care they are both horrible, but Randy did beat FSU. Golden lost to 2-10 Maryland....and Duke. Randy got his soul ripped out against UVA. It's like picking hanging or firing squad, you're ****ed either way.

Randy beat FSU twice. With Kirby Freeman. Twice in Doak. Defenses were constantly top 25, top 5 in sacks and tfls. Offense was a train wreck and conditioning was non existent. Golden is all of the above on steroids. With No D. Randy wins by jamming Golden receivers and put 9 in the box. And he had some decent DTs to stop Duke. Randy offense pile up 700 yards with Jacory 7 TDs and 4 picks. Lol smh.

At least Blandy TRIED to win, befuddled as he was. Golden seems more committed to his insane "process" than to making adjustments that will work. Blandy would have won Saturday.

Randy > Golden at coaching the game of football and it's not close

Sad to say that Randy is superior in X and O's. At least we know we would have solid defenses. Golden would get the edge on the day to day operation of the program.

All I know is that in Shannon's 4th year he had a mature team with highly rated talent with lack of talent / inexperience at the QB position. He underachieved and got fired for it.

And Donna liked Randy...

Sadly, you know how different this team would look with Shannon as the DC. I'd wager Golden would have 50% more wins with Shannon as the DC.

Our defense the last year with Coach Shannon was really good. Most people forget that. We led the ACC in INT's that year I believe.

Shannon would win. He was an awful coach, but what was maddening about his teams is that we would come out sometimes and dominate like that Pitt game in 2010 and then come out flat the next week.

Who have we dominated since Golden became coach? Yea Savannah St. That's it.

Shannon Defense and Offense was #1 and #2 in the ACC the year he was fired lol. Golden can dream.

Wow. That's it! We should re- hire Shannon! Maybe if he's not busy we could re- hire Patrick Nix, that is if he's not busy.

After all we really know why randy was fired.

Ya'lll remember the sun bowl. Randy's kids. Who was is stole the lawn furniture?

Don't let the reality of this coaching staff's limitations blind you to what came before.

Golden's talent level is on the rise, Shannon's classes great on paper epic fails.

I really respect Randy for the hero he was to his own circumstances. Great, great cane player, Pro player and great DC but he was a train wreck as a head coach.

Why do people keep throwing his name into the discussion. Oh.

Who here's asking for Shannon back?

I think the point of the thread is to prove that Golden is no better than the coach he replaced.

Wins may be the ultimate test. But a head coach needs a lot more skills than (I'm honestly sorry to say) than randy had. You say golden is no better than randy?

Can you remember? Nevin? Players openly mocking his staff. Reports of his alienating local coaches. His recruiting classes.

He was a pretty good d coach. I'll admit that.

Freeze frame the moment. Is the program, the program, in better shape today than when randy left it

Did golden inherit a program in better or worse shape than randy?

What did each do with the program each inherited?

That said Holden's staff: little if any game time adjustments, repeated flat performances when big chips (ACCCG) on the line, some of the goofiest play calling and misuse of available you never want to see.

But in fairness I remember Patrick Nix. Kirby freeman. Punters having to practice a wide out, gaping holes in the roster, year after year, nloi day and praying we got our plan c recruits,

Golden is so much better than randy in so many ways. He's got a lot of great CEO skills, communication and people skills randy, sadly, just doesn't.

All of this said as far as X's and O's ...... No bueno.

Make golden chief of football operations and get a game day coach. Sorry Al you've so much good for the U. Lose to Nebraska and fail to win the coastal and the fat lady sings.

Shannon's base defense would confuse Coley into a coma. Nix would have Robert Marve running down Ono defense throat like Johnny Football.

This was posted by another poster in the WEZ. And the same point in their tenures, I'd say Shannon had the program in a better place than Golden does now. Going into Shannon's final season we were ranked in the preseason and hope to win the conference and a few even chattered about national championship. Of course the wheels fell off as you'll see, but to this point, I'd choose Shannon before he quit trying.

We were 7-3 in 2010 and ranked top 25 heading into the VT game.

After losing to #2 Ohio State, we bounced back and destroyed Pitt 31-3 then beat Clemson. 3-1 ranked top 15. Then FSU destroyed us. 3-2 at that point.

After getting blown out by FSU, we beat Duke 28-13 and UNC 33-10. 5-2.

We were ranked #22 when Jacory got rock bottomed and we lost to Virginia. 5-3.

Again we recovered and beat Maryland and GT to get back to 7-3.

We were ranked #21 against VT, lost to them and then lost to USF and Shannon was done.

In his 4th season, Shannon had us 3-1 ranked #14; 5-2 ranked #22; and 7-3 ranked #21. That got Shannon fired (deservedly so).Does anyone think we will be 3-1, 5-2 or 7-3 and ranked at any point this season?

2008 > 2012; 2009 > 2013; and looks like 2010 > 2014. Shannon is better than Golden.

I'll go with Shannon I think he was a good head coach in the making but took the job before he was ready.
