Golden/Cristobal or the field? Who will be our coach in '16

Who will be the head coach at Miami in 2016?

He's got a nice contract with UK.

And their expectation are for him to keep them respectable, with anything beyond that being a bonus. He can average 8 wins a season there, and stay forever!

Whether or not he leaves UK will be based on how important "winning it all" is to him. He's not winning the SEC at UK, but making $3.5MM per year to be 8-4 is a pretty good gig, IMO ...

And coming to Miami, where 8-4 is grounds for firing, may not be all that attractive ...

Mark Stoops will be the next head coach of the Miami Hurricanes.

Not inside info just my opinion.

Stoops is an interesting name. Curious to see how Kentucky does in his third year there.
I think his time at Miami makes him attractive to the powers that be and he now has head coaching experience and seems to be well regarded in terms of how he's managing that Kentucky program. Will definitely be interesting to see if he can do well this season. If he does I would be good with that hire if it were made.

Stoops intrigues me. His attitude and style of play fits Mia.

Good luck trying to pry him away from Kentucky.
Bring checkbook.

James Coley. Yeah, I think that sucks, too, but it would be sooooo typical of our admins to just promote the most visible coordinator.

If not an HC or OC from a Power 5 program, we should get 1 of the following:

Bryan Harsin (Boise State)

Positive - Already on his 2nd HC job. Was OC at Texas. Runs pro-style offense.
Negative - Admittedly, a tough hire ... He's a Boise native.

Matt Wells (Utah State)

Positive - Has done well continuing what Gary Andersen built. Is 2-0 in bowl games ... Has quality road wins. Experience working with QBs.
Negative - Again, a tough pull. He's a graduate of Utah State. And if he actually happens to be a Mormon, there's no chance he'd take the Miami job.

Justin Fuente (Memphis)

Positive - If he improves on what he did last year, he may be the hottest name in the country. Experience at TCU (administration/location) would be similar to Miami.
Negative - I'm not sure if he's an "innovator". Expectations at TCU and Memphis are not the same as expectations at Miami.

Chad Morris (SMU)

Positive - Already has ties to the ACC from his Clemson OC days. He's taking over a team that was 1-11 last year.
Negative - Does he just prefer being back in Texas? Competing for in-state talent with Texas, TAMU, Baylor, and TCU in the AAC doesn't seem like it would be much fun ...

Tom Hermann (Houston)

Positive - Recent National Title experience with OSU as their OC. Can coach any style offense. Also competing with Texas, TAMU, Baylor, and TCU for in-state talent.
Negative - Houston just opened a new football stadium, and has a renewed commitment to their athletics program.

Justin Fuente is #1 on my list as of right now. Expectations at TCU are pretty high considering how far Patterson has gotten them.

Chad Morris and Herman may be solid options but they will need two or 3 years to see how they do as head coaches. Although Herman's offense in Miami would be fun to watch.

When Golden is fired, Cristobal will be the new coach for the Canes. Book it. Not my first choice, but better than Al.

If we don't hire an offensive guru as head coach....we are finished.

Offense wins in college football.....

Absolutley NO to the following:

Mark Trestman
Anyone named Stoops
Mario Cristobal
Anyone out of the recent Stoops offensive coaching tree post Sumlin
Anyone that has ever been a defensive coordinator

YES to any of the following:

Rob Chudzinski
Anyone out of the recent Chip Kelly offensive coaching tree (Matt Lubick or Scott Frost even though neither are ready)
Anyone out of the recent Urban Meyer offensive coaching tree (Tom Herman even though his buyout is too large)

The fact that Miami has never tried to run a spread read option is a crime with our talent base and speed. Chud did it with Cam in Carolina and could do it here.

In 2011, Chudzinski was named the Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator. He took one of the league's worst offenses in 2010 and transformed it into one of the top 10 offenses in 2011 with rookie quarterback Cam Newton. The Panthers finished seventh overall in the league on offense, fifth in points scored, and set a new franchise record for total yards in a season.

Charlie strong or butch davis should be the only candidates, btw strong can leave texas whenever he wants he has no buyout and no one in the texas fan base embraces him like we at Miami would, we would instantly be in the ACC title game with him hes more proven than any idiot you guys have posted, I believe we won't settle this time..

1. Number one since last December for me is Chudzinski.
2. Mark Hudspeth. Louisiana Lafayette HC. Love this guy's energy. Always seems jacked.
3. Mark Stoops. Basketball school...period
4. Justin Fuentes. At Memphis and has done well.

I'm staying away from assistants. Too much risk. Have to hit the homerun with the next hire!

Charlie Strong would never take this job and I don't believe he would be that great either.

I think Chud could be the next Butch.

Same pedigree and worked for him.

Butch always thought very highly of Chud. Butch is almost as good at developing coaches as he was at players. Three of his assistants at Miami went on to be NFL head coaches....that is almost unheard of.

Chuck Pagano
Greg Schiano
Rob Chudzinski

BTW...Butch was not a big fan of Randy Shannon and would not allow him to be DC.

I feel you on Morris and Herman, but we don't have another 2 seasons for them to mature.

Houston actually has decent talent for the AAC, so we should know fairly quickly how good Herman is. Urban Meyer took a Utah program from 5-6 the year before he arrived to 10-2 and 12-0 in 2 seasons. Houston was 8-5 the past 2 seasons. He really should have them competing for the conference this season ...

Of bigger concern, thanks to Al Foil for the buyout info, is that $2.25MM number. Based on that, pursuing Herman is unlikely.

But with Morris ... If he shows he can do anything with that SMU program in year 1, I'd see if he had any interest in moving from Texas to Florida. You'd think that guy could do some quality things with our offense. And the fact that he's already familiar with recruiting in the ACC is a plus.

Oh, and he's already on record with the following:

During summertime sitdown interviews July 15, Morris said: "People look at me like I've got three eyes when I tell them that I don't want my first (head coaching job) to be my last one. If I do leave, I want everybody to sit here and go, 'man, wow, thanks, we wish you the best, can't blame you' and not look at me and go 'why are you doing it?' That's just me."

But if Fuente dominates that conference, go all in with him. Sign him up before they even finish the year so that he can get the recruiting done right!

Next coach of Miami will be Chip Kelly.

He's out of Philly after this season.

He misses college, always wanted to win big-- got close at Oregon- but never had the talent level of UM to do so.

Kelly will end up in Coral Gables and win.

Big

This is a great list.... IF YOU'RE FIU.

This is Miami, aim a little higher.

Either one of these would be a great choice. I think Strong to Miami is more of a possibility than people are giving the idea credit for. He's a Florida guy, he's not a cultural fit in Texas.... and it's not a guarantee that he'll succeed there.

The Miami job would fit him like a glove, and he would be much more likely to succeed here.

Guys I'd be looking at-

1. Todd Graham, ASU
2. Butch Davis
3. Matt Wells, Utah St
4. Mark Hudspeth, ULL
5. Mark Stoops, UK
6. Chad Morris, SMU

Coordinators:

1. Jeremy Pruitt, UGA
2. Scott Frost, ORE
3. Tom Herman, OSU
4. Rhett Lashlee, AU
5. Lincoln Riley, OU

NFL:

1. Josh McDaniels, OC, NE
2. Adam Gase, OC, CHI

Everyone Said No, God Help Us:

1. Greg Schiano, Publix
