Oh boy, this guy is Golden 2.0 . . . an even more clueless phony. Al is at least a decent guy.

Mora is a lot of things but Golden 2.0? I don’t see it.

Mora is good recruiter and a rah rah guy. He is also good with boosters and fund raising.

This is as good UConn could have hoped for. Will he make them a good program? No. Will he get them to respectability? Maybe just maybe.

Assuming Golden wanted it, he would have been a better hire than Jim Mora, if for no other reason than he knows the recruiting area. UCONN is the kind of school Golden could have done relatively well at.

Could he do any worse with the linebackers?
Nope. He recruited LBs alright. It all boiled down to him not making changes on D. Had he fired D'No and hired a decent DC, he'd probably still be a HC somewhere. It's like the captain of the Titanic saying, "***** that iceberg! Let's see if we can smash through it!!" **** it, just change course. Golden refused, and Clemson sunk his little boat.

Jim Mora Jr is 46-30 for his career, with two 10 win seasons in his first 3 years at UCLA.

Al Folden is 59-59 for his career, was 27-34 at Temple & 32-25 at Miami, never won 10 games once in a season in his entire career.

Jim Mora had 6 top 20 recruiting classes, including a #7 ranked class in 2013, #12 ranked class in 2015 & a #13 ranked class in 2016. And even landed the #1 player in the 2017 class, none other than our very own Jaelan Phillips.

Al Folden had a #10 ranked class in 2012, #14 class in 2013, #12 class in 2014 & a #27 class in 2015.

Jim Jr is far better coach than Folden & has a better NFL cache than him to, Jim Jr has been a NFL HC before, he took the Falcons to the playoffs his first year (although that was Dan Reeves team) but he coached Michael Vick & was in Seattle at the beginning of the Russell Wilson era, even though he’s a Defensive coach, but the point being his history in the NFL trumps Folden’s too.

Jim Jr got the job because he’s been in broadcasting at ESPN for the last 4 years & still had the itch to coach, his contract is a 5 year deal worth just $1.5mill+ (with increasing incentives) but he don’t care as long as he gets a chance to back around the game & and the opportunity to run his own program again.

It’s actually not a bad hire for UCONN considering the circumstances, Jim Jr is enthusiastic rah rah type that can recruit & has solid NFL experience to draw from. Expectations are low & he doesn’t have to do much except have them be competitive & not lose 11 games a year lol.

The first order of business is they need to find a conference to play in lol.

That dudes career died and died quick. Wow.
Only Miami fans think that Al Folden is anything more than a washed up bum.

He will never be a P5, or G5 HC ever again, at best he could maybe get a FCS job, but in reality most FCS programs wouldn’t want him either.

The rest of the college football world understands the scope of the damage he did at Miami & have no respect for him at all, it’s just he still has pockets of Miami fans who actually think he was... “good” 🤢... Almost threw up in my mouth having to type that.

He was a worse coach than Richt but he was a better recruiter and talent evaluator. Although he was a better recruiter, he wasn't elite enough that he'd ever get to the point that the talent could overcome his lack of coaching ability and toxic personality.

He couldn’t shine Pastor Richts shoes on Easter Sunday’s Brunch as a Coach.

I think Richt was a better talent evaluator off his time at UGA, Richts classes at UGA sh*t on Folden’s in every aspect.

Richts classes in Miami struggled towards the end because he was burnt out & left most of the recruiting up to his assistants like Diaz, Brown, Dugans & Hartley etc..

Richts health was understated, the man nearly died before he stepped down here, he legit had a life threatening heart attack & I remember distinctly in the 2018 season noticing that he looked physically drained & very unwell, there were times on the sideline he looked like he was about pass out. He just didn’t have the energy to recruit as hard as he used to do back in his UGA days which is why our classes under him went so bad, but even some of the few players that he did find like Ahmmon Richards, Deejay Dallas, Jeff Thomas, Malek Young & Brevin Jordan were standout players.

The best players Folden ever had was Duke Johnson & Brad Kaaya & Duke would’ve came here if we had a literal mannequin as the HC lol
