GOAT RB - Vilma tweet

Take out the iceberg and the Titanic’s maiden voyage was a smashing success.

Sander’s was great but his lack of blocking and propensity to lose yards at times elimintes him from goat status.

Barry also caused to the Lions to lose a ton.

People watched the highlights and think Barry is the greatest but like someone said Walter is probably the greatest football player of all time. Walter would have been a pro on offense or defense and at multiple positions including Punter

I think based on the totality of the responses, we might have reached the extremely rare occasion of all of CIS agreeing on something.

If you put Barry on Emmitt's Cowboys teams, he'd put up records that would never be sniffed.
Meh. JJ wasn’t one for backs who could lose 3 yards on third and 2.

Put Payton on those teams and he posts 20K yards.

Put Marshall Faulk behind Larry Allen, with Aikman throwing to him, and he makes the HOF at two positions.

Payton was simply the best. I am sure of that. Running, receiving, blocking, passing, kicking. He would have been an unbelievable option QB, was the goat rb, beat the heck out of defenders, blocked like a beast, got tough yards, juked, never missed games and had no one around him to help. On a team with other weapons, he would have destroyed defenses. Who covers him on screens? His straight arm deserves a plaque of its own in Canton.

If Frank Gore had 2 good knees, he'd probably be high up on these lists.

With 2 repaired knees, he has how many yards now? Almost 15,000? Absolutely incredible.

A healthy Gore at Miami would be my #1 pick out of Miami RBs for sure. And we've had plenty of good ones.
If Gore never got injured, he would have been Sandersesque.

Maybe in production. But aside from great vision (which both definitely had), their running styles aren't all that comparable IMO.

I can't think of anyone really productive to compare to Barry in terms of style, except maybe Sayers, and even that's a stretch.

Eric ****erson would be toward the top of my list, there is a case to be made for all listed above.

Floyd Little is the correct answer.
He's up there. Everyone knows bow-legged RB's aren't worth a dam.
He averaged over 4 ypc only twice in his 9 year career.

Throw Shaun Alexander in as a nominee for most overrated category as well.

Agree that Payton was a better football player than Sanders.
As you said, probably the best of all time.

EDIT:
****, catch me in some bar and feed me a few scotches and it wouldn't take much to convince me that "Sweetness" is also the GOAT RB. I loved his style of play.

Kind of surprised no mention of LT here. I think he needs to be in the conversation.
How about "Sweetness" Walter Payton?

You put LT over ****erson?

Your asking a Ram fan from way back.
Can I put Willie Ellison on the list?

Kidding aside, LT and ****erson are those next tier, 1B backs.
Two different styles. Similar career rushing stats.
Yes, I put LT over ****erson because of his elusiveness and receiving production.

How can someone call a back of the best pure back if they cant Pass Pro??

Definitions:
Pass Pro- falls under Complete Back
Moves/Elusiveness- falls under Pure back

(spelled "elusiveness" correctly this time)

LOL. No, you can’t use Ellison.

I put ****erson over LT, but I can’t disagree with your criteria or which tier they’re in. Makes sense.

My bias is towards backs the size of ****erson with elite speed.

The dude was durable.
Averaged about 25 touches a game for his first 8 years in the league.
Too bad the Rams couldn't find a way to complement him with a decent passing game.
I don't know why I would have expected anything else with John Robinson as the HC.

Gale Sayers was a better back than Sanders.

Yall really hyping Sanders because of highlights

Payton was elusive also. I'm sorry but nobody will even convince me Sanders was better than Payton.
