Give Me Your Best "X and Goal" play from inside the 5...

32 power or 31 bump. We need to get tougher offensively. if you can't run the ball inside the 10yd, you are going to have lots of trouble scoring touchdowns

Every time. Every situation. Any down. Any distance.

Two plays: the Jet sweep and fake jet sweep. Line up single back, trips, with the strong side of the formation to the boundary. Berrios or Thomas or Harley (only 1 of those guys should be in the formation) come in motion from the field side for the jet sweep and run to the boundary. Later on in the game, you give them the same look, but the motion is a distraction for the inside hand-off to Homer. Or vice-versa (run the fake first then the jet sweep later).

And from that same formation, you can also throw up the corner fade to the split end or slot (to Richards or Langham only, please).

I love to see when a quarterback rolls out with 1st and 2nd options like you drew up but then has TE or slot receiver trail from backside in back of end zone after showing block for a 2 count. Sounds like a perfect job for Polendy.

sometimes people around here confuse play calling with execution . . . sometimes they dont!

Homer can take the ball and one step forward getting the D to react, peek and see which side is open - usually six yards either side is wide open for him to bust a move and coast in.

That plowing into the black is just BS - especially two or three times in a row.

Our redzone woes give me indigestion. It just should not be this difficult to punch it in.

If we’re 1st and goal inside the 5, i’m putting Malik under center with Gaynor in @ FB and handing it to Homer to blast into the end zone.

If our OL shows an inability to move the LOS, my second down play has Herndon in the backfield as an H-Back, motioning him to a wing, and running a PA pass to try to get him the ball in the middle of the field. I also have Langham out wide in case they offer up a shot at the fade.

If that fails, i’m running the mesh if they man up, with Berrios in the slot and Richards out wide. If you execute the play properly (just get in the way and don’t make it too obvious) it is **** near impossible to defend.

If they look like they’re doing something weird defensively I probably have Malik check to a PA roll to the right where he has an option to run it in if it’s there.

^^ lol @ putting rosier's short *** under center. I never seen a wr fade in the back of the end zone get batted down by the Dline

forgive my crude illustration..

langham would have an option (quick hitch, post/fade) depending on how the corner is playing him if he's one on one vs. a short guy and there's seemingly no help i'd chuck it up to him.

on the other side, there's berrios in the flat, herndon on the corner and Richards running a slant... one of those is likely to be open.

Of course Rosier would have a RPO, so he can hand it off to homer or keep it and run it in himself.. or if he decides pass homer can stay in to block or run a flat or angle route, option for a shovel pass, again depending on coverage. etc...

if a D can cover all 5 of those guys and stop malik from running it in,if and when they're all covered, then we deserve to kick a field goal.play.webp

Perhaps I should have clarified....Rosier is only under center on first down in my scenario. Perhaps that gives it away as a run, but that's OK. My second down play actually I would run out of the pistol - which I have soft spot in my heart for (even though Richt hasn't used it).

Go 2-TE, bunched up, fake the run, have the lesser-used tight end slip away and run a real quick shallow out. The Shula-era Dolphins ran this play to perfection. Especially in the Marino years when they had trouble running the ball well.

We have had plays that have worked and plays that have not.
In my mind Richards catches that ball nine times out of ten against the Orange. So I would keep on trying to get him the ball in those situations.
Berrios had a nice TD against F$U.
Harris had a nice TD against Toledo.
Herndon caught a nice easy TD lined up at FB.
Against Duke the quick snap QB sneak worked initially.

I think a game like this is coming at the perfect time. We should have plenty of opportunities against UNC to continue finding the best plays that work and the ones that are less successful.
