Give Me Your Best "X and Goal" play from inside the 5...

Said back in August when this problem first came about when Richt said we don't have the personnel for a traditional Goaline Offense.

And we don't, we don't have a FB or a TE2/TE3 for Max protection to just load up and pound the ball from the 1 yard line.

Therefore, we need to get more creative in the Redzone, vs Bethune, Toledo, Duke & Cuse had the ball inside the 5yd & couldn't score a TD.

We should use Rosier the same way USF uses Flowers, Rosier obviously isn't as Fast or as quick, but the concepts can still apply with a mobile QB.

So, give me some Rosier Zone-read, and some Play Action from the Gun with Herndon/Langham/Richards in the back of the End Zone.

Have Rosier stick the ball in Homer's chest to get that Safety/LB to hesitate for a split second, then fire it in there with a Quick Slant or a Corner Fade to Richards/Langham/Herndon.

We're all in agreement that our inside-the-5 redzone play calling and execution could use a lot of improvement. It's probably our biggest Achilles heel right now and caused us two "close" wins against GT and Syracuse. I understand that we don't have the right personnel for ground and pound (short 1 blocking TE and 1 FB), but at some point we need to start going with what we have - athletics players with good hands. So let's have it - what packages/plays would you use every time we were inside the 5, no matter the down?

My go-to play is a hybrid-bootleg (or what some call the half-rollout) works in favor of both Rosier and his pass catchers, specifically Herndon, Berrios and Langham/Richards:

Rosier rolls out and goes through a simple progression 1) Herndon/Berrios in the flat, 2) Langham/Richards in the corner/backline or 3) run it in himself. Fourth option is if Homer has no one to block and ends up at the goalline as a safety valve pass. 5th option would be "scramble mode" where options 1-4 are covered and the backside receiver has the option to turn his route into a crossing pattern across the middle of the endzone.

Interested to see what the high-football-IQ minds think we should be doing instead of what we are doing in goal line situations.

I would have to disagree with not having the personnel to ground and pound. We just need to go under center more. It's hard to run the ball from shot gun when the team is expecting run. I dont complain about this team all but us being in shotgun every play is the one complaint i do have.

I hear that alot that we should go under center more to run more effectively. Not being an *******, I'm curious, why does it make a difference shotgun vs. UC when running the ball. Maybe a dumb question but thanks.

most of the time we are in shot gun we have everyone spread out and not in tight to block. Herndon might be in to block. Also the running back is getting less moment from shot gun, hes not getting those few steps of momentum he would have form an under center handoff. The last thing is us going under center more gives us a little more variety from a play calling standpoint. seeing homer get a toss or a some kinda of handoff to the outside would be nice to see instead of him hoping to find a hole from the shotgun

twenty two belly option on two on two!

Pay Dnofrio to coach the opposing team. I guarantee we score TD 100% of the time

Our entire offensive philosophy is predicated on limiting Rosiers mistakes and people want him rolling out throwing risky passes into a crowded end zone with 68533 defensive players jammed in there? Are you for all for real? The reason why we're like 3rd in turnovers lost is precisely because richt has limited these kinds of plays. Have you all forgotten the idiotic pass he threw directly at a Syracuse defensive back while running around in the last drive?

Bootleg him to run it in, fine. Ask him to rifle it in to a packed endzone while on the run? No fu$&king way.

Even langham's miracle catch was a bad decision by rosier. There was another wr open on that play and rosier heaved an underthrown jump ball into double coverage.

Gaynor at center Donaldson at guard and run the ball between them. I'm just old school.
